Greetings Ragged Mountain Friends. Here's a little sunshine (or shall we say snowshine) for you on this rainy day. On Monday, we will be announcing that we are spending an additional $1 million in snowmaking improvements to make your 2012-2013 winter the best ever! You'll see 100 more low-energy/high-efficiency tower snow guns on the mountain. Half of those guns will be part of the new, automated snowmaking system on the Exhibition trail. Last season we automated the Flying Yankee trail, which means our snowmakers can take advantage of shorter windows of colder temperatures, and get more high-quality snow on the hill earlier in the season. The additional tower guns will allow us to be ready to go on even more terrain, plus hit high-traffic areas on a more consistent basis.
Combine all this firepower with a new pump that is going to push 25% more water on the hilll and five new fan guns. All this means we have the capacity to open more terrain even faster, letting you carve turns on Exhibition and Flying Yankee early .

Should help quite a bit. A lack of snow guns and water capacity has been a big hindrance for early season terrain expansion at Ragged. Whether it has been down time in refilling the snowmaking pond or having to move a smallish fleet of snow guns around to different trails, it has seemed to take Ragged longer to expand terrain offerings more than most areas it's size. Hopefully this helps address that deficiency.

Water capacity has not been an issue since Ragged got permission to put in new piping from lower bog before last season. I forget the size pipe but the pond can be refilled in a matter of hours instead of days waiting for run off. Anyway, last year the opportunities to make snow were so screwed up water capacity never would have mattered.
