RockShox SID World Cup Dual Air 15mm Fork

ONECOL.jpg

RockShox has laid claim to the Superlight XC throne with their 32mm SID chassis. And with this SID World Cup Dual Air 120mm 15mm Fork, they want a piece of the marathon race market as well. This fork takes the lightness of the shorter travel SID forks, but adds nearly another inch of travel to make it a bump eating 120mm featherweight. At 3lbs even, it's certainly light, but the one-piece carbon fiber tapered steerer/crown keeps it stiff and strong. You'll feel the lightness when you ride, but with the performance of the carbon upper and the added rigidity of the 15mm Maxle Light thru-axle, you'll have all the stability and control you could ask for.
The Blackbox Motion Control Damper system is the finest that RockShox offers. It has separate circuits for high and low speed compression as well as beginning and ending stroke (big hit and small hit) rebound damping. This is what they call Dual Flow, and it allows the fork to respond correctly to these different kinds of forces since they require different levels of damping. The result is a fork that is sensitive to stutter bumps and soaks up bigger hits to keep you in control and comfortable at all times. You'll find a lockout lever on the right side of the fork crown that also acts as an external adjustment for the low-speed compression damping. It's detented now, so you can make an adjustment of a click or two and the knob will stay put until you twist it again. You can dial in the low-speed compression damping from light to lockout, depending on the terrain and your preferences. A gold threshold adjustment knob sets the force required to blow through the lockout. On the bottom of the right leg is a detented rebound ...the one-piece carbon crown and tapered steerer adds stiffness and saves weight... adjustment knob that controls the beginning stroke (small hit) rebound damping. The red rebound knob contains a short 2.5mm hex key that also serves to adjust the preload tension on the Maxle lever throw.
The Dual Air spring is housed in the left leg. The Dual Air system allows you to fine tune the spring characteristics. In technical terms you can change the breakaway force and shape the spring curve a bit. In trail terms, this means you can create a supple ride quality for chattery gravel road rides, or firm it up for rides with consistently bigger bumps and G-outs where you'd have frequent potential for bottoming the fork. Thankfully RockShox thought to print an air pressure chart and stick it onto the left leg, so you'll never have to try and remember what pressures worked best for you.
The one-piece carbon fiber crown and tapered steerer are another important part of the weight savings equation. At the same time, this is also part of what gives this SID World Cup the strength and stiffness you'll want, even on your race bike. The low-friction anodized 32mm aluminum upper tubes are worlds stiffer than the old 28mm SID upper legs, and they have sag gradients to help you dial right in for a perfect setup every time. Another detail that helps make this SID stiff is the use of carbon wrapped powerbulges on the cast magnesium lowers at the position of the lower bushings. They eliminate deformation of the lower tubes, ensuring smooth action and less bushing/stanchion wear. The 15mm Maxle Lite is also stiff and lightweight, and it's as easy to use as a quick release.
The RockShox SID World Cup Dual Air 120mm 15mm Fork has White lowers and a clear-coated carbon fiber crown and 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered steerer. The lower legs have post-style disc brakes mounts and are configured for a 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle (included).
