I know Rutland is not the greatest Town these days and recall some hotels mentioned to stay clear of. Looking for a place to crash Sunday night with my kids and don't want to be with the homeless crowd next door. Recommendations?

Attn: @KustyTheKlown and @BodeMiller1 your professional Rutland assistance is required.

My 2 cents: Comfort Suites on Allen St is much nicer than most of the other Rutland places. A few bucks more as well, but worth it IMO.
Yep, and The Comfort Inn in N. Conway is maybe the nicest one in New England. In all seriousness, everything is always perfect. Also, beside Mini-Golf.

Anywhere you can get in on the Access Rd. The places on the right going by PICO are small and clean. Hey, Vermont is a Sanctuary State which thought it was a good idea to defund the police. So, there's that...

Stayed at that comfort inn a couple times, seemed like a safe place so left skis poles in my car (maybe just lucky). Waiting for luggage carts to move stuff on the elevators was the only negative for me. I prefer the “back the car to the door” motels.

I think the Best Western is the best, nice-ish all around. Comfort inn was always my go to, but I haven't stayed there in a while. Decent pool and hot tub, but dated rooms. I'm old now and no longer interested in living among the homeless, so the shit holes are out. The last time at the Rodeway inn a few years ago, we were grilling dinner in the lot outside the room (like the homeless I guess), and the next door neighbor came out. Long story about how he used to live down by the river, but the Rodeway room was better. They even paid him to mow the lawn and do maintenance. We fed him well.

the two roadway inns haven’t been on booking sites since covid. They are literally shelters. The days inn is a mix. The comfort inn is not in the program as far as I know. The holiday inn (I think?) near Panera bread is a full on drug den.

All the Rutland hotels are charging more than they are worth. I have found much better value in WRJ/Queechee for central VT lodging. Typing from Queechee 30 from K, 60 from bush, 75 from Stratton. Works for me

I only vaguely remember one other mid range chain in Rutland from far back. Don’t see any more. No Holiday Inn.

I used to stay at the Comfort Inn a lot. But their prices had gone up so much I haven’t stayed there lately.

The primary motivation for staying at Rutland is price, in exchange for the longer drive in the morning. With the price hike, that motivation is now gone.

(The Best Western is decent. But its price fluctuates wildly. If you can get it at good price, it’s a good value option)

I’m surprised allot of u guys don’t just join a ski house/lodge. There’s plenty of them around and many are looking for members.

I am far too misanthropic and driven by variety to ever do that. Utterly unappealing, for my personal preferences

Not really anymore, the share houses are all VRBO now, the owners make more money that way.

When my daughter went to Castleton State we used to stay at the Red Roof Inn which was decent at that time. Now as a Days Inn, No thank you. I think the only place I would stay in Rutland would be the Hampton Inn or the previously mentioned Best Western. Similar to KK we have been staying over on the east side, actually in New Hampshire where we have found a nice hotel we are comfortable in. I'll take the longer drive for nicer lodging. We generally look for lodging with a hot tub which we really enjoy after a day of skiing. Generally have found that we like the Hilton Hotels and the Holiday Inns are the best with some good BW's as well. We have found great places to stay in New Hampshire and Colorado using these brands.

i am reticent to even provide specific recommendations, mainly bc of the lurkers on here. i guess i'll say this one tho bc i havent been staying there much and they seem to have vacancy week to week and i want the business to thrive (tho i suspect they are gangbustrs in the summer). if you dont mind ~35-40 to K, lake bomoseen lodge is an absolute gem. they have two lodge buildings on the lake and some cottages across the street. they have a really great bar and restaurant on site. it is clean, recently renovated, on a gorgeous lake that is full of ice fishers, very affordable for skiing, and is run by really nice people. as i mentioned, i presume their on-season is summer since the lake seems to have a big boating/fishing/swimming/bbq summer scene. being on the other side of rutland near castleton, its just far enough from skiing that the rooms are only like $120 a night in the winter

Have not stayed there- Clear River inn has good reviews online. 10 minutes to Killington access road in Pittsfield. I do like the Tavern they have recently taken back over.
