Okay, so it seems like the latest "trend of the moment" in brewing is to have a Rye based beer offering. I've gotta say that i'm mixed on this, with some offerings (Blue Point's Rastafa Rye, Northshire's Rye PA and Harpoon's newly released Rich and Dan's Rye IPA) making my palate very happy  , while others such as (Newport Storms Cyclone Ryan, Founder's double dry hopped reds rye, and Wachusett's Ryde) not exactly leaving me wanting to have another one. When done right(and in my book simple and not trying to over complicate things) the spice at the finish is soemthing that I enjoy, when the brewer trys to do too much with the flavors, it's just not happening for me.

Opinions from others??

My thoughts, exactly. Rye adds an interesting flavor and feel to the beer. Let it. If it needs to have a big helping of Extra Etremeness, then it probably wasn't a good beer to begin with.

i'm not a fan of too much hops in my beer ... i think I'm allergic as my face and neck turn bright red when I drink something like an IPA. I think it's called Asian Flush.

I like the Harpoon only I have tried though. It goes along with the trend in bringing back rye whiskeys.

I have a good friend that is of japanese ancestry, and you can always tell when he has had a drink, his face turns red, bummer for him when we sneak out to the brewery, his wife always knows
