indeed White was in a class of his own. He was getting a solid 5 feet higher out of the pipe than the other competitors and his tricks were just as sound as anyone.

Carrot shit? White is the most talented superpipe rider on the planet. Lago has a long way to go to even consider matching White's amplitude, style and confidence.

Didn't say he wasnt'? Did I? Mmmmm nope....

BTW, your user name is still making me laugh!

Admittedly don't follow snowboard pipe, but have to say I was confused by the scoring of the Finnish guy as against the American dude from Ohio. So were the announcers, it appeared.

My only guess based on some of the commentators remarks, especially when they mentioned a conversation with the head judge, is that one of the key things that the judges look for is CONTINUED large amplitude on their airs ALL the way down the pipe. The Finnish guy went consistantly larger out of the pipe than Louie Vito did, even though argueably Vito had a better line up of tricks than the finnish guy.

The amplitude factor is why if she lands things clean tonight, Kelly Clark is the favorite in the women's half pipe, because no other woman goes as consitantly big as she does in 1/2 pipe today.

Doc, did you see the Kelly Clark NBC promo last night? They mentioned West Dover on it...and then had a shot of Wilmington! Ha! They also mentioned TC's (not by name) and had actual shots of inside the restaurant.

I don't follow pipe riders to closely but every time I happen to catch one on TV I can't help but find myself routing for Louie Vito.

And this has nothing to do with Dancing with the stars, i didn't realize he was on that until they said it last night.

Hahaha, my wife saw that as well she is from Whittingham and the first thing she said was, "That is Willmington not West Dover".

I leaned over to my wife and said: "Hey, I've been to that town and eaten in that restaurant. How friggin' cool am I?" She LOL'd. and probably thought: "I married a dumb__ss" ;-)

Lets win this! No more of this Carrot shit!

I'm sick of seeing this red-headed-stepchild hog the spotlight as well. I wish he would of busted his grille on the deck, but like some sort of freak he comes back and kills it.:uzi: There are other Snowboarders who are better all around riders, the half-pipe is only a fraction of the whole skiing/ridiing experience. Why the media is obsssesed with this prick is beyond me:blink:

A. wishing injury on a competitor you're not a fan of - lame.

B. It's the half pipe comp. What does being the best all around have to do with anything when concerning a half pipe competition?

C. He's BY FAR the best half pipe rider in the world and it's very rare for repeat golds. HUGE accomplishment.

D. Do you know Sean White in person to call him a prick?

Wow, rant much?

Because he is the best at what he does by a lot, in a sport where the non-expert can see, with the naked eye, the difference between him and #2?

Because he markets himself well? Because he has distinctive looks?

And as far as this argument goes:
There are other Snowboarders who are better all around riders, the half-pipe is only a fraction of the whole skiing/ridiing experience.

Do you really want to go down this slippery slope? "Oh Vonn is fast at racing but that is only a fraction of the whole skiing/riding experience...she's not that good at riding a rail or hucking cliffs or skiing chutes or ripping the pipe or riding switch etc..."

"Oh Shani Davis is good at speed skating but this is only a fraction of the whole skating experience...he's not so good at hockey, landing a triple loop, or ice dancing"

"Oh Tom Brady is a good quarterback but that is only a fraction of the whole football experience, he's not so good at running the ball, punting, or playing defense"

"Oh Tim Lincecum, he's a good pitcher, but that is only a fraction of the whole baseball experience, he's not really much of an outfielder, he can't play catcher, his hitting is pretty bad..."

And so on...Shaun White is good at what he does, it is a specialized, hard to master subset of a larger sport, and that is the case with many athletes, many of whom have the media all over their junk, all the time. You're talking about the very nature of modern sports.
