Seen the Moose?

So, anyone been to Mt. Snow to see our moose? We've got a moose that's been hanging out on Upper Exhibition for the past three days ... very young healthy female (as far as ski patrol can tell). She's been quite content standing in the trees right off the edge of the trail - excellent view from the lift!

Views.

Is she there for the excellent views of the slope? By the way I hope to get out in the woods nearby to see if the grouse is back. One of my most interesting views of God's creatures was an ermine I saw in Colorado.

We saw the moose when we were up between Christmas and New Years! I was amazed that she was there, day after day, hardly moving from the same spot!

3 DAYS OF MOOSE SPOTTING AT MOUNT SNOW

We are leaving Thursday for 3 days at Mount Snow. I will be searching Upper Exhibition for the female moose. I have a digital camera that I take with me on all my trips. I will snap a shot of her.

Hey Jess. Yep all day last week (thurs - sunday) people kept asking me if I'd seen the moose onthe way up the mountain.....I finally caught a glimpse on sunday morning. Tiny.....For a moose

Was thinking that I wouldn't come up this weekend cause of the weather.....but, now their saying snow on Saturday. I might make a quick run of it on sunday.

MsMtSnow,

I heard a rumor that the moose was killed because it got too close to the summit hotel?

Is this true?? :(

The moose was put down (nice term) by the game warden last thursday because it had brain parasite. It was wandering aimlessly around the base area all day and the game warden was called to inspect and it was his decision.

That's tough. Better, though, than it going on a rampage flattening some kid, I suppose.

Reminds me of a story I heard from a Ranger at Apache/Sitgreaves in AZ (Arisona, that is). They have a regular bear problem out there, bears coming down out of the woods and snacking on garbage cans and such. Current solution is to trap the bear and take it out far away and release it. If the bear comes back into inhabited areas more than 3 or 4 times, they have to shoot it. About 20 years ago (I guess, it was 10 years ago I heard this story) they had a Ranger there who specialized in problem bears. Seems he had a great success rate- no bears ever came back into neighborhoods. Eventually word got out what he was doing- he'd trap the bear, haul it out into the woods, tie it to a tree, and proceed to beat the living crap out of it. The problem with bears is, once they lose their natural fear of humans, they can be a real problem. So, he was re-instilling that fear. Worked great, until the animal rights people got hold of him. He got fired, and now they have to shoot the bears. I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals, but it seems to me a little 'splainin' is better than a bullet.
Too bad there wasn't an option for the moose. And I was all set to look for it next weekend.

beswift,
~4yrs ago, while sitting at side of a narrow, bending trail @Attitash in mid-March....a female grouse walked out from the underbrush, walked around me...lightly pecking the intruder's wardrobe. Held my arm/hand out and she got up on it....and jumped off as I slowly lowered her perch.. I must have been either a little close to her territory, or our timing was just so. A beautiful bird, to say the least. 8)

We passed by this moose several times. I think they said her name was Lucy. May she rest in peace.
