No.

I will always wear a helmet personally, but it should not be required. I look at it as the same thing as motorcycles. I could never do either without my helmet, but not a requirement. It is a way of natural selection.

You should post a poll

I personally am not in favor of one. I don't wear one myself, but do consider it every year. I don't have a compelling reason why I'm against such a law. Even if I did become a 'helmet' skier, I can guarantee you I wouldn't want to be wearing one in the spring when I'm primarily skiing at slower speeds in the bumps. I'm not saying you can't hurt your noggin' bad by taking a header in the bumps in the spring, I just would always want the option to not wear one that time of year.

For kids, yes.

For adults.. I just don't know. Sometimes I use one, sometimes I don't. I've started to use one the ice is on the hill and it's more like skating, after falling a few times flat on crust.

I will not ride my bike without a helmet
I will not ski without a helmet
I will not support a law that requires helmets
Too many liberties being taken away from people as it is and I can't believe that anyone stands for it.

I kind of agree with Bob R's opinion of polls. Often times, people will just vote and move on. Threads like this without polls foster more discussion and it's interesting to read folks' opinions on the matter.

that's a pretty valid point

I guess I'm just a sucker for stats. I would like to know what percentage of people here are in favor or not.

then again, you could always add up the tallies for me based upon what is written Greg.

I don't know. I don't think so. I ski with a helmet, but there have been many cases where a helmet actually was a partial cause of the accident. Young males in the 16-24 year old range often get this concept that, if they where a helmet, they can ski however they want. I'm certain that those of us on this forum in that age range (including myself, I hope) are a little smarter than that (maybe that's a bit presumptuous  ). But it happens all the time. They get in over their head because they think the helmet is going to completely protect them from all harm.

Or perhaps since it's so important to you, you could do it... ;)

What we need is a poll to see if anyone thinks people should actually answer the original question and not have the train of thought on a thread derail and fall helplessly to the bottom of the chasm in a fiery crash. :spin:

Well, considering that I don't wear a helmet, my answer is automatically no, except for young kids.

For kids, yes.

There is no way that society can totally protect kids from idiotic parents. You know how it goes - you need a license to drive a car, or to go fishing, etc., but any asshole can be a parent.

It is a way of natural selection.

I've never seen an argument against a helmet law put that way. I like it!

True enough, but if lifties are going to pull them aside and say get a helmet on. Well, you can't change their behavior, but you sure can try to flick them on the middle of the forehead as many times as possible.

It's even more fun in a crowded area when you can do it to the back of their ears but they don't know who did it. :-D

Nope, no law, this being the "Live free or die" state. Our kids have always worn them and once they got old enough for school, the school ski program required them anyway. I started wearing one myself four years ago or so and was really surprised to discover that I actually prefer it to a hat, except on really warm spring days. It's amazingly comfortable and very warm.
