Dozens Injured—At Least 9 Critical—As Ski Lift Collapses in Astún Resort, Spain

Shocking pictures are reaching us from Astún Resort in northern Spain, where a ski lift collapsed today, January 18, injuring more than 30 people. According to initial information, nine are in critical condition, and there are also eight seriously injured, the government of the Aragon region in the northeast of the country said. While the cause of the accident is at this point unclear, it appears a problem with the support cable caused the bullwheel to come off the top station.

Not that old. 1989. I'm not sure collapse is the right word. I was expecting towers down reading that title. Looks like the bull wheel detached resulting in some chairs hitting the ground. This is probably what the result would have looked like if people were on the Spruce Peak Triple at Sunday River when it failed ten or so years ago. Hopefully the injured recover.
