Anyone ski the area on the Big Island? I have seen in the tourist literature that they have a three week season at a lift serviced area.

It is also marked on one Map that rental cars are not allowed on Hwy. 200. I tried that number about a year and a half ago but didn't get an answer. At one time there was a fad going for skiing sand or volcanic ash. The French were going out into the Sahara and skiing the huge dunes. I believe I saw film footage of skiing off the volcanoes in Hawaii. Of course one run destroyed a pair of skiis so this was never a very popular sport.Mauna Kea State Recreation Area is 35 miles west off Hwy. 200 (Saddle Road) at the 6,500 foot level on Mauna Kea. . . Skiing is available (weather permitting) November through January. Access to areas off Hiway 200 is by foot or four-wheel-drive vehicle. Cabins and a recreation hall are off Hwy. 200. Daily dawn-dusk. Free. Phone (808)974-6200 for camping reservatons.

Thanks loads!! I was just reading a message on iwindsurf.com. The guy had moved to the Big Island from San Fran. inorder to do more sailing. He didn't find any winds in the winter and was complaining, I suggested that he take up skiing!!! Working on your skills isn't where it is at. Conditioning through a variety of activities leads to a long life and happiness for you and all those close to you!!!jimme said:Here's the Website for the Hawaii Ski Club. Lots of info there.
