Slopes, the infamous bar in Tannersville N.Y. a long time Hunter Mtn. hangout, has lost their liquor license for selling "contaminated" liquor, buying from stores instead of distributors, and hiring unlicensed bouncers.

The long time owner passed the reigns over to someone else last year...

We were playing a gig there and suddenly a bunch of guys who were hanging out pulled out their badges and blocked the doors...

They carded everyone... Checked all the booze... But found nothing that night...
We got a gig out of it... On the to cops liked the band... :)

Liquor licenses are easy to come by

Only time we skied Hunter/Windham we stayed at the Scribner Hollow Lodge with it's groovy "Grotto" indoor pool. Great food in their restaurant and the accomodations were nice. I think the rooms have fireplaces. We went with another couple, she was pregnant at the time, and as she was getting outta the pool the step rail ripped out and she flopped back into the pool, uninjured. Everybody had a good laugh.

I just learned that the "contaminated" liquor was contaminated with bugs. BUGS? How do bugs get in there? I thought they meant it was watered down or something.

I would have thought that the infraction was buying cheaper out of state alcohol to avoid the taxes they'd have to pay going through a distributor. I know people who run mom & pop bars in Vermont who top off their Vermont bottles with New Hampshire liquor. As long as people are paying cash, you can keep a big chunk of your business under the table.

Can't say that I'm very upset about that...

I prefer some drinks in the lodge and a nice glass a wine with my meal at Vesuvio, anyway.

Bugs in a liquor bottle usually means fruit flies. That's a sign of poor clean up and sanitation.

YEah... During the raid they were checking the bottles with a light... didn't find any though...

all bottles are to be wraped in ceran wrap at night and thats a healty code. flies love the sugar in the booze. bars make up like 50 or more percent of ecolabs biz. there is a speed pour top that is self sealing but they end up getting cloged to often and the bar staff dont like them. its really not that tough to have your barbacks wrap everything at the end of the night. there is also no way to loose your LL on a first offense, third or fouth for that matter. they had a ton of priors or they pissed the health inspector off. they still can go to albany and plead their case with the SLA. if they have a decent lawyer they could get it reinstated but at this point it would just bew easier to close the place, bring in a new partner and start a new llc. it is done all the time. once you get to many violations atached to your LL. it just aint worth the trouble. i think the quickest i have ever seen a new LL obtained was 2.5 months but that was on multi million dollar venue and they had the dosh to throw at the SLA

i have not been there in years but its probally time to gut it and rebuild. i bet you there is a lot of rot in the building. i might have considered it but i want to be further north.
