STOWE, VT - For more than 30 years, Spyro Gyra has remained at the forefront of the modern jazz world. Their music has been called funky, groovy, soulful, smooth and often summed up in one word; fusion. This Friday, June 24 at 8pm, the five-piece jazz ensemble plays at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, Vermont's most intimate, high-quality and spectacular live music venue. Founded in the mid-70′s by saxophonist Jay Beckenstein, Spyro Gyra had its breakthrough success with 1979′s "Morning Dance," whose title track became a Top 40 single. With over 25 albums released (their most recent was Down the Wire in 2009) and 10 million copies sold, Spyro Gyra is one of the most prolific, as well as commercially successful groups of the modern jazz genre.

The Arts Center also supports the community by providing high-quality space and technical systems to support educational programs, aspiring artists and their productions. The theater, with minimal separation between audience and stage, provides flexibility that includes the extension of seating onto the stage, the use of galleries for performers, plus reception and banquet facilities. Technical works include tension grid mechanical space over the stage for lighting and scenery, a lighting bridge and catwalk over the auditorium and an equipment room for sound, projection and recording.
