Sunday River 2013-12-15

Well, had a good day last night after work. I got one of my grandsons up to the River for some night skiing. Took him thru Who-ville and he has a new favorite thing to do!!!!

Today, I was back at the river, and my day started at North peak, where I experienced a good solid 14" of the white fluffy stuff, then onto the Merrill Brook area for more of the same. From there I headed over to Cascades and Sunrise for even more while I made time with the ladies. Then I was all over the place at Locke Mountain, where there was just so much snow, some of it was virgin even at 11 Am, just for me! Did some tracks at White Cap, before I left in favor of other areas. Spent some time at Brooke side where I helped out a couple of the ladies who got stuck in the deep snow. I liked North Peak quite a bit, so I headed back up there for an hour or so playing in the snow. Finally finished my day up at Tempest.

The sad past of all this is that my day started at 6 AM and all my tracks were made in a snowplow equipped Ford. Wednesday, I'll strap some skis on and play in the snow in a proper manner!

Unfortunately, I was working all day, and won't have a day off until Wednesday. I imagine the powder will be all packed down and groomed by then, ready for me to rip 'er up. My old boss should be joining me for the day!

sorry you could not go up there. I made it yesterday driving on I-95. Most of the time it seemed like my car was the only one on the road. drove thru near slush in boston to 12 deg/powder snow near portland. got sking from 1-4PM with all the usual suspects (= who are crazy to drive on a day like that. The snow was denser than expected but whole lot of fun. favorite was the short , sweet and never disappointing lock line . legs are toast. Ski patrol guys was telling me that in order to open the trees they need more snow. He was also hoping that win will not blow the snow away.

Sat it was -5 to start the day and I felt it. I waited until it was above 0 around 9am to go out. Turns were great. Sunday I did not wait. We hit White heat and Obsession right off. Right side of heat was untouched, it was fantastic. Simiilar on Obession. Run of the day was Upper Tempest. Spots were waist deep with the way the wind Had blown the snow into skiers right. Short guys rule on powder days.

Envious.... how I wish I was skiing this week. Christmas is coming and I am way behind with the shopping.
