two ski areas I haven't skiied at in 25+ years - Loon and Cannon. will be with my son, 9 years old, low intermediate skier, trying to balance terrain, conditions and expected lines (we like to keep moving).

input is appreciated. thanks to all in advance.

Cannon has a great deal on Superbowl Sunday I believe...2 for 1. Take advantage of that. Tougher terrain than Loon, but fewer folks and cheaper.

I think it depends on if you are looking for long cruisers or can deal with lots of laps on shorter runs... if it's the latter, you should see minimal lines at Cannon on Tuckerbrook and Eagle Cliff chairs which are well suited to your son's level. I also like the fact that the clientele at Cannon seems to be at a high skill level, I don't really worry about collisions and such like I might at for example Sunapee or Waterville.

I've only been to Loon once so I'll defer to the rest of the gang, certainly we had a very good experience there in the spring.

this will be my first year in 4 or 5 that i won't be attending the sunday twofer at cannon. definitely one of the more crowded days of the year at cannon, especially when the pats are not in the superbowl, BUT a crowded day at cannon is still not very crowded compared to places like loon. even on super bowl twofers, i don't think i have ever waited more than five minutes or so tops. get there early for close parking though, they eventually put cars by the lake.

How about the conditions at Cannon (vs. Loon) I always think of Cannon as windblown which concerns me re: my son. I'd ski Cannon any day if there were comparable conditions. thanks for all the input

Well, it is all going to depend on the weather for the remainder of the week. One more r^&* event it looks like before a Nor'Easter maybe on Sunday-Monday.

it could go either way. often times cannon is a bit windblown and scraped, but on the flip side, often times cannon gets snow when loon doesn't. loon is guaranteed skating rink on the weekends any ways due to the crowds so 12 of one and half dozen of the other perhaps. i'd rather slide around on windblown hard pack than scraped snow dodging other skiers.
