We've talked about this on the lifts... you see kids coming down the hill with both tips wiggling on corduroy... They have these "badass" 130mm waist skis... but there is no pow... The rockers are so awsome that 2in apart from the bindings, the skis don't touch the snow anymore...

They're easy to turn...
Everyone thinks they look like pros... and wear a camera on their helmets!

So, are these the new snowblades?

Yep.

Except snowblades are always gay, even if you rip on them.

Super fat skis make you look rad if you rip on them, especially in firm conditions. If you don't know how to ski and are still skiing them on hardpack they're pretty much the equivalent of snowblades. Actually even worse since people on snowblades have no illusions about looking cool.

Also, gotta throw some touring binding on even though you will never tour. Looks way radder. Or at least some 16 din all metal bindings even though you set them at like 6.

But fat skis are awesome, even on ice. You saw the other thread, right?

my fave is to just make tight little S turns on the edge of a rail. I prefer to use poles with them

Yeah I didn't use poles with them when I was really into it, but used poles last weekend.

Its funny though because EVERY person on the chairlift asks questions about them

Bought some back in the day to screw around in the park.. they are good for beginners to learn but once you get decent at skiing they are useless going downhill.. youll want something bigger.

This year we don't need fat skis.We need snow.

That's why i asked... No snow and you still see these kids with super fat skis w/ ton of rockers slip and slidding around the trails and wonder why you would run these on hard pack?

I agree with the "full metal Din 18 touring bindings" as well... seems like a natural match!

Any opinions out there on the combination rocker/traditional camber ski's?

I purchased a pair not long ago (Dynastar Outland 80 XT). I've only had a few days on them so far but like them. I think it's something like 35% rocker (tip & tale) & 65% traditional camber in the middle

I've heard that racers use snow blades for practice, but I've never seen the 130s you're describing.

Like a severe reverse camber?

But do these rockered skis need to be controlled by the hips... because i see a lot of torsion trying to control these... it's all in the hips and heels, right? Cause that's how most kids ride on those!

Haven't skied my S3's yet this season..packed for Fridays trip...I did put AT bindings on my Sultans though, just so I can use my Garmont's..so much better to walk around in, lighter..more comfy. I remember walking through the lodge at Plattekill with the Rosss's.got a lot of WTF looks..but now they are becoming pretty common...
