LAKE PLACID, New York — It's not a cuddly teddy bear, and it's not a gummi bear, it's the Adirondack Black Bear. Join singer/songwriter Jessica Deeb Saturday, July 9th at 8:00 pm in the High Peaks Information Center, located at the end of Adirondack Loj Road, as she performs her original songs about black bears in this family friendly performance sponsored by the Wildlife Conservation Society. Come learn the bear-naked truth about the biology and conservation issues of this most well-known Adirondack mammal!
Jessica Deeb is an accomplished singer, songwriter, actress, and director. For over twenty years she has been performing in folk groups, musicals, choirs, and weddings. Her song Riding the Carousel, which she wrote in collaboration with Kyle Letson, was recently chosen to be on a promotional CD by the Saranac Lake Carousel Committee. In addition to her musical and theatrical talents, Deeb is also a math teacher at Saranac Lake Middle School.
This special event is made possible, in part, with a Developing Community Arts Grant with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program administered locally by the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks.
Deeb's program is part of the ADK's Saturday Evening Lecture Series, funded with support from Stewart's Shops. The Saturday Evening Lecture Series offers presentations on natural history, backcountry recreation, and Adirondack history, art, and music. All ADK lectures are free and open to the public.
Founded in 1922, the Adirondack Mountain Club is a member-directed organization committed to public service and stewardship. With more than 35,000 members in 27 chapters, ADK promotes a balanced approach to outdoor recreation, advocacy, environmental education, and natural resource conservation. Membership guides ADK's mission via its educational and outreach programming, trails maintenance and restoration projects, volunteer opportunities, and legal advocacy work. New members are always welcome to join! For more information about our programs or about membership, contact ADK at (518) 523-3441, or visit our website at www.adk.org.
