LAKE PLACID, New York — The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) will offer a map and compass workshop on November 5, 2005 from 9:00–3:00 at ADK's Member Services Center located at 814 Goggins Road in Lake George. This course offers an introduction to the fundamentals of map reading, identification of terrain features, compass use, and triangulation. Once learned, these skills will enable participants to feel more confident in safe backcountry travel and preparedness.
The price of the course is $45 for members of ADK and $50 for non-members and includes instruction and use of materials. Participants should bring pad and pencil and be prepared to spend some time outdoors in unpredictable weather. To register, call ADK at (518) 523-3441.
