The Adirondack Mountain Club Presents Russell Banks: Fiction vs. Fact in the Adirondacks
LAKE PLACID, New York — Author Russell Banks will be giving a reading and discussion of fiction set in the Adirondacks featuring his novels The Sweet Hereafter, Cloudsplitter, The Darling, and numerous other short stories at the High Peaks Information Center, located at the end of Adirondak Loj Road, on Saturday, August 13, at 8:00PM.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Russell Banks was raised in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and he has taught at Emerson College, the University of New Hampshire, New England College, Columbia University, Sarah Lawrence College, New York University, and Princeton University. Banks has won numerous awards for his work, among them a Guggenheim Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowships, Ingram Merrill Award, The St. Lawrence Award for Short Fiction, O. Henry and Best American Short Story Award, The John Dos Passos Award, and the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Banks resides in both Saratoga Springs and Keene, New York.
Banks' program is part of the ADK's Saturday Evening Lecture Series, funded with support from Stewart's Shops. The Saturday Evening Lecture Series offers presentations on natural history, backcountry recreation, and Adirondack history, art, and music. All ADK lectures are free and open to the public.
