NEWRY, Maine — Kicking off the new year on a musical note, The Wailers are coming to Sunday River's White Cap Lodge on Thursday, Jan. 5 as part of the resort's college week festivities, which also includes a battle of the college bands and the SCS Slednecks snowmobile demo presented by Red Bull.
"If you like reggae or just like to dance, The Wailers are a don't miss show," said Ryan Moltenbrey, Sunday River college sales representative. "I saw them last year for college week at Sunday River and there's no way I'm going to miss it this year. Because everyone has similar time off from school, college week is a great time to hit the slopes and meet new people."
Sunday River is offering College Week ski and stay packages starting at $55 per night or $239 for the entire week with valid college ID. College Week runs Jan. 2 through Jan. 6. Single day lift tickets will also be available to college students from $33 per day. In addition to the concert College Week also features numerous DJ parties, a hypnotist, and a fireworks display.
The Wailers remain the world's ultimate roots rock reggae outfit. Aston "familyman" Barrett rose to world reggae prominence when he teamed up with Bob Marley as the groups bassist and musical director helping to craft such hits as "Exodus," "One Love," "Soul Shakedown Party," and many more. With Barrett at the helm as musical director, The Wailers released the acclaimed "Catch A Fire" album in 1971 to universal acclaim.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets and lodging reservations are available by calling (800) 543-2SKI. More information about the Bud Light Concert Series and Sunday River's College Week festivities is available at www.sundayriver.com.
