Well, I would have liked for US to win this, but honestly, this realy was just another NHL game but without the usual ice thuggery and figthing.

I'm not bemoaning here the lack of amateur athletes here. That went out long time ago. My point was that the whole USA vs Canda was kind of bogus here, given that all of those players on BOTH teams are for the most part current players in the NHL and CHL. A lot of the NHL is full of Canadians anyway, so the national identy of either team was mixed at best. Weren't there at least one or two players on the US squad that were actually picked from the Vancouver Canucks??

It would have been definitely more exciting to see a match up of either Canada or US squad vs any of the European teams in the final game. If the Europeans had the chance to cherry pick the best players from their different teams (as opposed to just indvidual national squads) across Europe, me might have seen a much different results in this category.

Anyway, the game was exiting to watch since the game played was a high quality hockey without too much of crap like cheap shots and fighting which really has spoiled hockey for me over the years of watching NHL.

Um...

A lot of the guys on the 'european' teams play in the NHL.

Particularly the top flight teams...

See chart here: http://redwings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=60748

The NHL is the top pro league. Players from all over the world come to the US / CAN to play in the NHL because it is a premier opportunity (money / competition / endorsements, etc.)

The teams are about where you're from (citizenship), not where you play (residency).

If I'm misunderstanding your argument, let me know.

i have no idea what youyr point is bumpsis' ... the whole tournament was frickin awesome - ovechkin and the russians demise reminded us that its a team sport, miller and the finns showed just how important goaltending is, i got to watch some of my favorite flyers and ex-flyers battle in the bronze game which was a crazy pendulum swing of periods.... i think 23 of the 25 man slovakia roster was nhl/former nhl players... i will be bummed if the nhl players don't make it to sochi
