Tremblant, Jay or Burke?

Planning a ski trip for February 19-21 (Pres. week) and want to book soon. At which of the above 3 ski areas are we likely to have the best snow? Love powder but know that's a crap shoot. Does Jay really get 125" more snow/year than Burke? Have skied Tremblant and Jay, but never Burke. Tremblant seems more likely to have shitty weather than northern VT, true?

Wifey needs to bring her puppydog to have a good time. I've found really nice and private lodging options near these ski areas that are pet-friendly. If you can recommend one at another ski area go ahead. Black Bear Inn at Bolton is a place we've used previously, but at 200+ a night, they've gotten stupid expensive for a pretty basic, small room.

Jay gets an average of 350+ inches per season of snow , Burke gets an average of 250 inches of snow per year, Jay gets more snow then any other hill in the North east. I can't tell were to go but the one time I been to Burke it rained but I hear it is not crowded.

Jay does get that much more.

One of the most crowded holiday/vacation weeks of the winter. Can't speak from experience but I would guess that Temblant might have somewhat less crowds being out of the US.

Slopeside at Sugarbush (Claybrook) has dog-friendly rooms. Not cheap though.

If you stay near Jay or Burke you can ski the other. Tremblant - you are pretty much skiing Tremblant. If you are near Burke you could also ski Cannon. Near Jay you could jump the boarder and ski Owl's Head as well.

I've been to Western Canada (interior BC) during President's week. No crowds and no inflated prices. Not sure if that works for Tremblant and Whistler type places, but it should be easy enough to fnd out. I assume Jay would be one of the better US choices anyway since their nearest metro area is Montreal. There is also a good chance a lot of NJ/NY people won't be skiing that week due to schools being open, the hurricane caused a lot of extended closures that need to be made up. I imagine it will be a less crowded year for anyone that happens to be off that week. Kinda sucks for tourism dollars.

Burke has historically been fairly uncrowded on holidays. With the new Jay/Burke combo, who knows if the crowds will increase. There is a multiday ticket that has a good price that covers both Mtns ( http://www.jaypeakresort.com/skiing-riding/tickets-passes/ski-jay-peak-and-burke ). This would allow you to ski both mountains fairly easily. If Jay looks like it is too crowded, head over to Burke.

Jay generally has more snow than either Tremblant or Burke, and, yes it will be crowded and expensive at that time. Jay is also a crapshoot because if a thaw freeze cycle hits it can really suck. Tremblant does not tend to get a ton of snow but they make plenty and it is so far north they tend to keep what they get and make for the entire season.

I often drive to Canada for President's weekend/week, but I go to Ste Anne and Le Massif because the mountains are great and the conditions are always decent and often excellent.

My aunt is a school teacher in NY and all her days they louse are taken away in April.

My town was out 9 days. They have 3 built into the schedule. Any snow days and they can throw the original calendar in the garbage.

If a federal disaster is declared in NH the schools can get a waiver from making up days.

Can't comment on Tremblant, but grew up in the NEK and Burke will have the least number of folks almost guaranteed. As to most snow, who knows. Burke has seen a significant upgrade for pumping capacity and they have an increased budget, so snowmaking runs will probably be better than before. Their glades also don't see nearly as much traffic as other places. Out of the three, Burke is going to be the most rustic and laid back experience. Depends on what you want I guess. I'd say you'd get more skiing at Burke and less noise.

Tremblant main advantage is its village (50+ restaurants, bar, movie theater, casino). It gets less snow than Jay Peak by quite a bit, but less rain also (I've skied both places for several years). Tremblant has lots of uphill capacity and it degrades snow conditions rapidly.
There are better places for skiing in Quebec (Massif). With Jay, you have better snow, access to Burke but less choice for dining and no casino...

If you are going to stay in the US I would choose Burke for that period. Less wind issues and less people than Jay. Not sure where you are coming from but if you don't mind the extra driving Quebec should be awesome and not very crowded.

I think you've gotten a lot of great advice in this thread so far, hitting Canada during US holidays is always a savvy play.

I have to say though, I skied Jay Peak last year on the Presidents Friday and went into the experience expecting the nightmarish worst and it wasn't bad at all. I'd say a 5 or 7 minute line was the worst I endured all day, and it was perfect blue-sky weather.*

*Smuggler's Notch the next day (Saturday), however, was pretty bad.

Jay mid-week on vaca week isn't bad. Weekend is a different story but you won't need to head over to Burke to get away from the crowds 19-21. I like NEK's idea above of getting the Great Big Kingdom card (unless you are getting a package deal already) because if Jay has a wind hold, you can go to Burke (I wonder if Jay will offer this service to all of their guests on a wind hold day? I bet they comp em' at Burke if Jay shuts down for resort guests). Burke will be less crowded for sure but Jay will be not crowded at all mid-week during the vaca week. No more crowded than a non-powder day weekend, maybe a little less crowded even than that.

Jay does indeed get way more snow and if you are rolling the dice on powder, you want to roll the dice on Jay for sure. Jay gets a lot of mini bursts that don't hit Burke.

Canada is a great way to avoid the crowds even more and pay less. I went to Owl's Head last year on President Day weekend and skied onto every lift (conditions were't great but all the groomers were open). Sutton and Orford are two other options from the Townships. Of all of these areas, Sutton is going to be closest to Jay on snow but none of these options is going to be at the same odds as Jay for new snow.

I'd say you should book Jay. If you were looking at either weekend on Pres week, I'd suggest Burke or the Townships. Can't go wrong with Jay mid-week even during a vaca period.
