That was hard news to read. Ouch.

While Women's Ice Hockey is a relatively new sport for the Olympic games, it is totally possible that the US and Canada have a much longer history of skill development and organized competition than other nations bringing teams to the Olympic venue.

The Massport Jets was a girls hockey team founded in East Boston in 1970, and within a very few years there was a Can/AM collegiate championship competition with 8 teams in the draw, every team being vested as a full varsity sport. McGill University hosted the first event.

Matter of fact, the Massport Jets first petitioned the IOC to include Women's Ice Hockey in the 1976 Olympics. Inclusion was not granted by the IOC until 1998.

Hits close to home with me because I was one of the whacko nut jobs that pressured Colby College to board the train.

How about the Canadian mens team needed to goto a shootout to beat Switzerland. Then Sid Crosby gets the winner in the shootout, and all of Canada can start breathing again! Good stuff!
