The resolution is non-binding, just a show of support from the Senate, and doesn't even specify how the resorts should be connected....More based in reality is Ski Link, an initiative unveiled late last year proposing a chairlift between Canyons and Solitude resorts. A bill currently in Washington would force the U.S. Forest Service to sell property in Big Cottonwood Canyon, near Solitude, to Canyons Resort owner Talisker Corporation so such a chairlift could conceivably be built.

I see that being useful to people staying in Park City, but why would someone drive up to the Canyons to take a tram over to Solitude?

What's the beef? Are they Eco nuts or is it something legitimate?

Lots of BC folks upset about that portion of the Wasatch having a lift corridor through it and saying that trails are next. Seems kind of silly because I just read that the Wasatch BC areas have thousands of skiers and riders in them on a busy day as it is, so it is not really "wilderness" per se.

Other folks are not happy about Talisker and the corporate vibe and the thought that it will ruin quiet Solitude.

The biggest mistake from my POV was that Talisker knew that there might be opposition, so they went around local lawmakers and regulators and got Orrin Hatch and the other Utah Federal Delegation to write a bill ordering the NFS to "give" the land needed for the lift corridor to Talisker.

And as long as Talisker keeps pumping millions into the local economy and employ thousands either directly or indirectly through all the contractors that are working on the still numerous new construction mega houses and townhomes they're putting in, they carry some weight for sure - full disclosure, I am typing this at the Talisker owned Umbrella Bar in the base area of the Canyons right now and am amazed at what they've done here since I was last here 2 years ago just before Talisker bought this place! Some folks won't like it, but it sure is starting to have lots of high end resort ammenities now

I find it weird that the PC areas can't even align on skiing from DV to PC to the Canyons, but want to connect with BCC and LCC. To connect DV and PC would take about ten minutes with a hand saw and to connect PC and the Canyons a little more effort. I say connect the 3 PC areas first and then talk about BCC and LCC. If I was king of UT for a day and had to connect Parley's Canyon with BCC and LCC, the connection from PC would via Guardsman Pass and not the Canyons (tough to be Talisker).

I have yet to actuallly talk to a resident of Utah that actually supports this although I'm sure there are some. I have to question the ethics of local politicians as I would consider Utah a VERY VERY fucked up place in this nature, it is known that neither Taliskier and politicians have been very up front with the people.

On a purely selfish note then I hope it never goes through. The Wasatch is a small range that already is getting ridiculously busy and overdeveloped. That and it would suck to ski with Park City people, they would realize how bad the Wasatch back sucks for skiing as soon as they skied double the snow with better infinitely better terrain. This entire move is about a real estate development, all this bs is so deja vu
