Hey Everyone,

This is my first post, but I've been reading and enjoying these forums for the last 2 seasons. I've appreciated all the ski-wisdom, and I'm hoping you could bestow a just a little more in answer to my conundrum.

My buddy is getting married in April. A small group of guys, no more than 6-8 are hoping to have a ski weekend bachelor party in New England. Most of us are coming from NYC, but 1 or two may come from Boston. We're not huge bar folks, but we might want to hit a couple if the mood strikes. One note: money is definitely tighter for some of us than others, so cheaper options are key.

So, I'm wondering, if you had to do a bachelor party ski weekend in New England, cheaply, for 2-3 nights, and the bar scene was important but not as important as the skiing, where would you go or recommend? Some threads from a few years back recommend Killington, which is a totally fine drive for us, but I'd love some specific advice on where to stay, how to find a good deal, etc. I've only done a couple of overnights and usually just do day trips to the Catskills, so the finer points of NE resorts and getting good deals isn't my strong suit. Really appreciate it:smile:

thanks!

I would never advocate filling a condo bathtub with ice and inserting in said ice filled tub a keg. But if that's all you can afford...

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
If this is late April you'll have to go to Killington, Sugarloaf, or Sunday River. They'll be the only ones open with worthwhile terrain. If this is early April you'll have everything north of MA open.

And possibly Jay for late April.

killington seems the obvious choice.

skiing should be as good as any in April

lots of bars & restaurants on access road

rutland not too far away for alternate food/bev/entertainment

variety of lodging options

decent trip from NYC and Boston

What no one for the Wachusett Village in!! JK, I would say Killington as well, a time frame would be helpful. They could always day late March for some great deals and conditions.

If you want to go for something completely different, and if your crew has some earn-your-turns experience, you can do like I did for mine...a Tuckelor Party. We did a weekend at Tuckerman Ravine. Did two hikes...weather was too heavy to really ski the bowl proper, but we had a good time all the same. We went to North Conway to the Moat Mountain Smokehouse. It worked for our group....may not work for yours.

If you are thinking a traditional get drunk off your a$$ party, I'd say Killington is hard to beat.

If you do decide on Killington as some have recommended stay local. Use a shuttle, bus or taxi to get around if needed. The Royal Green Mountain Police have been very aggressive in the area as of late.

The easiest and most logical spot is killington.. Stay on the access road and don't even think about driving after a couple beers. You will have good skiing and a number of bars to choose from. And it's only 3+ hours from NYC.

Is that a typo? I've never made the drive from Manhattan to Killington, but I would figure it's over 4 hours.

Im about an hour south of nyc and i make it in 4h30m . We usually leave early and ive gotten to stratton in 3h40. I would say its sub 4 unless u leave during rush hour.

Best case scenario for me from Brooklyn is 4hr 45min from my driveway to K parking lot. That's leaving early in the morning with no traffic. I can see it being a bit shorter leaving from Manhattan or the Bronx though. I'm all the way on the SE side of Brooklyn near Jamaica Bay. It takes me 45 min just to get out of the city.

I make Rutland in 4hrs flat from here then what ever it is to Pico - Killington. I'm 10 miles west of 287 on 80. Once on 287 it's a straight shot north up 87. Lake George area in 3 hrs, Castleton ( where daughter was) 3:45. Real easy going north-south up there, east-west is another issue. Driving over to NH from NNJ is a whole different ballgame. If one can get up, early morning is definitely the best time to travel.

Strippers, strippers, strippers, is my suggestion. See if there are strippers at the Carabassett Inn near Sugarloaf that weekend and they may be in Rangeley the next night. Strippers, is what we're talking about. Naked ladies, is the point.

I would suggest that you get your buddy an inflatable date for the weekend - and then make him carry her around when you go out. We did this for my brothers bachelor's party several years ago. When I realized he "forgot" to bring her into the restaurant where we were having dinner I went out to get her for him. I didn't want to her to be lonely in the car...

The Inn is no more. Four seasons cafe in oqussoc still has them though.
