Season pass sales at Killington/Pico, the East's largest ski resort, lag sales from a year ago.

"Season pass sales are obviously a little bit soft and I think a lot of that is due to the economic concerns going on," Horrocks said. He added that there has been a "significant improvement" in pass sales in recent weeks as the October 15 price deadline approaches. Prices increase again after that date.

Lodging reservations at Okemo Mountain Resort's Jackson Gore area are up over last year at this time while season pass sales are up 5 percent from a year ago, said Bonnie MacPherson, a spokeswoman for the Ludlow resort.
