Area skied: Wachusett Mountain Massachusetts
Date skied: November 23rd from 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Surface conditions: Packed powder, small amounts of hardpack and ice cookies.
Weather: clear, 25F at 4:00pm, 22F at 7:00pm
Warren and I made an afternoon trip up to Wachusett Mountain for some night skiing and we wanted something a bit closer than yesterdays schlep up to Crotched Mountain
Arriving at 4:00pm we where greeted to nobody at the ticket windows outisde and had to wait in a 20 minute line at guest services to part with my 60$:angry: Could the mountain not emply someone to sell tickets outside?
Our first run was down Ralph's Run which had a nice packed powder surface and near edge to edge cover. Challenger was the best trail on the mountain IMO with the most packed powder and only a bit of hardpacked on the steeper section near the bottom of the trail.
We took three runs off of the summit down a recently opened (this afternoon) Conifer Connection and the snow was variable with a mix of mini ice cookies and packed powder above Mountan Road and packed powder below that.
They are making alot of snow on 10th Mountain and Salamander Cutoff and snowmaking was in progress throughout the evening. Some of the whales are 4-8' tall and the trail was being groomed out roughly up to Salamander Cutoff when we took our last run.
