Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA

Conditions: Packed Powder, Sunny and Windy, 20 degrees

Trip Report:

A nice morning of early season snow, smiles, and cheerful people for opening day at Wachusett. Terrain offerings were Challenger and Ralph's Run off Minuteman, Indian Summer off Monadnock, Easy Rider Carpet, and Ollie's. Conifer and 10th were getting blasted all day (still only 22 degrees at noon), so look for Conifer tomorrow and 10th either tomorrow or soon after. Pretty good crowd up there today with the lot full back to row 7.

Challenger: The softer of the 2 big trails today, with less pebbles than Ralph's except for the steeper parts. It was narrower than Ralph's, but the base was deeper. They also had a box set up at the turn off Look Mom. Nice trail to rip it on, no scratchy areas at all.

Ralph's: Wider coverage, but at the expense of a couple inches of base. It helped with the crowds though as most of them were on this trail. Lots of pebbles on the way down, but again, no scratchy areas. Minuteman Quad was busy all morning, but never more than a 15 chair wait.

So, a fun 3 hours on a nice early opening day at Wachusett. I'll be back up tomorrow PM to hit the summit for a while. After that, I'll be at Okemo Wednesday and probably either Killington or Mt. Snow Friday.
