NYPD: Mild weather may be behind jump in NYC crime
Robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies higher than last year
A mild winter may be to blame for an uptick in crime citywide, some NYPD officials say....[M]any of the burglaries, which occurred on a stretch of Clinton St. between Delancy and Houston Sts., occurred because residents are leaving their windows unlocked since they’re opening and closing them more frequently than usual in the winter.

That makes sense, as many apartments in NYC seem to have thermostats with only two settings- "off," and "sauna bath." :???:
