I flew in and out of this airport 30 days ago on the same airline. A six year old boy was killed .

I've flown in and out of Midway several times. The problem (as reported in the national media the past couple days) is that Midway sits right in the middle of a very busy residential/commercial area in south Chicago, and the runways have minimal overrun area. It's pretty amazing to be driving along in Chicago and just bump into this big airport out of nowhere.

But the worst is flying into San Diego where you have to fly right over downtown on the final approach. It almost looks like you're flying thru the buildings as you land. It's pretty tight.

Jeepers...tune out on CNN for a couple days and you miss stuff. As for intriguing airports...is it just me or does anyone else find being able to see the jets line up on approch for for miles in the sky at Newark while you're driving up the GSTP super cool?

San Diego's pretty bad...I've looked down on approach and you also get pretty close to a parking garage near the airport.

Another one that's pretty bad IMO is Washington National. When you land to the south, the aircraft have to follow the Potomac and make a turn just before landing. It's kinda neat to check out the scenery as you come in, though.

I just read that the reverse thrusters may not have been working properly when the Southwest jet landed. On that kind of runway that would definitely be a problem...

Apparently there was an issue with the switch that activates the thurst reversers.

All in all, despite the tragedy of the little boy, this incident could have been far, far worse. Everyone was lucky there was no fuel spill and/or fire in that situation.

When I had a real job I flew into San Diego a few times. I hated going there. Your basically landing and taking off in the middle of the city.
