Going to a conference in California in early March, and my friend in San Francisco and I wanna go skiing for two days.

He's an beginner / intermediate skier, and I'm an expert. Any advice on where to go and where to stay (for not very much money)?

Thanks in advance everyone.

when i was out there last winter i skiied sugarbowl and kirkwood... at sugarbowl we did mostly backcountry and kirkwood was a downer because of strong winds (they had to close off the lifts heading to the summits so access to bowls were very limited)... i loved both though... you won't be disappointed anywhere in tahoe...

Northstar is the beginner/intermediate paradise. South Shore is where the action is, if that's what you're into. Heavenly (on the South Shore) is another intermediate paradise, with gorgeous views of the lake to boot. Heavenly's Mott's Canyon should be filled in this year for experts. Squaw is another expert mountain, just 15 mins. from Northstar, if you two are willing to split for the day. It's easier access from I-80, and cheap lodging is available in Truckee (on I-80). Alpine Meadows is another option on the North Shore, as well as Mount Rose, which opened new expert terrain this year.

i never been but my dad went 2 years ago, and he liked kirkwood the most by far. They seem to get so much more snow than anywhere else in that area.
