Happy New Year, all. Skied 6 of 10 days at Wildcat over holiday break with the wife. Missed the best day it appears on Dec 23 following the Sunday storm. Skied 12/20-21 as well, but left after lunch Sunday to beat the storm. Work got in the way Monday and Tuesday. Groomers and snow making crews did a great job with everything given the circumstances. Took it slow as conditions were not optimal and limited trails open. For the most part, these are my normal notes for my ski log. No pics as the camera doesn't come out often. Too busy making turns.
Middle Catapult and Alley Cat were consistently best runs. With limited terrain and vacation crowd Lynx, Upper Catapult and Middle Wildcat turned into sh** shows often.
12/24: Early start; light snow, ~20*; PP/dust on crust, some wind scoured, freezing rain to rain ~1PM; got soaked and called it a day; ROD: Middle Catapult
12/26: Clear, cold, no wind; 2nd chair – delayed opening due to ice up top; firm and fast; groomed/FRG/LSG; ROD: 1st one! All cord! Upper Catapult/Middle Wildcat/Cheetah which is our normal warm up run) Great run. Clouds rolling in during afternoon; Could use some snow.
12/28: April in December; 50’s; spring skiing; lost lots of cover; 16 trails open; ROD: last one - Lower Catapult
12/29: Sunny, cold; fast and firm! FRG and bullet-proof; not fun skiing; scraped up; difficult to set edge at times; lots of short turns to control speed; looks like late March and not late December; ROD: Alley Cat
12/31: PP/LSG; some boilerplate and few bare spots; AM snow showers and COLD! Groomers/snow making crew did great job with what they had; ROD: Middle/Lower Catapult
1/1: Jackson @ 8:30 AM is -4* with -26* wind-chill; Wildcat on wind hold for day @ 9:45AM; thank goodness for college football!
1/2: Clear, sunny and cold, no wind; LSG/Hard Pack/ice; sh** show and a half on Middle Wildcat; ROD: Middle Catapult/Alley Cat
Skied 6 of 10 days over break compared with 10 of 13 last year. Fingers crossed for snow!! I am sick of groomers and need to see some bumps!
