Pats 34, Colts 31.

Pats defense tries to stand up to Manning, but he throws 3 TD passes. However, Corey Dillon runs for 140 yards and 2 TDs, and Brady throws 2 TDs without an interception. Pats pick off a Manning pass late and drive down the field with a couple minutes left. Vinatieri boots the game-winner with 3 seconds left......now they gotta beat Pittsburgh at home........yikes!!

I love the pats but they have it against them this year.

Hasn't this been the case every year? The Pats always seem to perform better under pressure (much to the angst of their loyal fans!)

Thus the predicition that a last minute Viniateri kick wins it... again.

I think we heard the same story a few years ago: There's no way they can beat the Raiders! Well, they got lucky with the "tuck" rule, but there's no chance against the mighty Rams...

Do not underestimate this team. They thrive on being the underdog. Belechick will have a game plan in place that is going to confuse the heck out of Manning. He does every time. Routes will get disrupted, receivers will be out of position, tight-ends and Edgerin James will be playing blitz pickup all night. If you think you've seen everything from Belechick, think again.

Manning and company are not the same team outdoors. The cold weather changes the feel of the ball for QB and receivers, and the soggy turf throws off timing and route running. Sure passes will be completed but the Pats know how to tackle, unlike the Broncos. You won't see 15, 20, 25 yards after the catch.

The one thing everyone seems to forget is the improved Pats offense. They won't win an outright shootout with the Colts, especially if they have to come from behind. But, if they score first like they try to do every game, I think they'll win. I say 31-27 Patriots. The Colts' last drive gets stuffed at the New England 13 yard line.

"Vander-jerk" tries a last second field goal to win it, but it's blocked and the defensive player crashes into him, breaking his leg. Pats win 28-27.

This is hopefully one of those games that becomes a "classic". The Pats thrive when it seems that the odds are stacked against them. Losing Ty Law is not as bad as many believe. He went down in Late October and the Pats have been winning without him (except for that brain-freeze in Miami). Corey Dillon has to be a battering ram and hang on to ball. A secret weapon is Patrick Pass. I'm not sure if Kevin Faulk is playing but Pass has stepped up in recent weeks. The Pats Offensive line needs to do like they did last year and not allow the pass rush to get to Brady quickly. You can be certain the Tony Dungy has stressed this and they will try to disrupt him in any way they can. I was praying for a yucky field and it looks that way. Edgerin James is overrated because everyone worries to much about Manning beating you through the air and no one pays attention to him. Therefore the Pats need to get an early lead and then grind the Colts into the trenches. Adam Viniateri hits a field goal with 3 seconds left and wins it for us 31-28.
P.S. Bethel Johnson needs to get some great returns as well

Yes, 31-17, but most likely they'll have to play their starters throughout both halves.

I can't believe the J-E-T-S blew that game yesterday. Bet their kicker got pummelled on the flight home from Pittsburgh.....

And - I also cannot believe even the Boston Globe is picking the Colts over the defending Super Bowl champs, at home. Teams with a first-round bye at home in the NFL playoffs are 46-11 (including Pitt last nite) since 1978. The Pats are 8-1 without Law and Poole in the secondary, and it will be snowing by gametime. Bellichek has had 4 weeks to prepare for the Colts, and Tony Dungy has never won a title game. If the Colts have to run or if they have to throw short all day because the field is sloppy, the Pats could win easily.

I stand by my pick - Pats 34-31. If it's really sloppy, this could be as much as a 10-point game for the Pats.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing he was flustered and distracted from that point and could never get back into his game.
He seems to display that look on his face a lot against the Pats. When things aren't going his way, he gets disrupted, and then it's over. It was poetic justice to see his trick play come undone because Manning himself caused a false start. I can't believe how many dropped balls the colts receivers had. I think the physical play early on had something to do with it. It's harder to reel in a pass when you're affraid of getting creamed.

That group of linebackers is the best in the league, and they really know how to shut down the screen pass. Like I posted earlier, there wen't many yards made after a catch. Teddy Bruschi stepped up big, especially with that take-away. He said after the game that he wanted that ball more than Rhodes did, and just took it from him. I think that sentiment was echoed throughout the game. The Pats just wanted it more.

It's nice to know that the greatest offense in NFL history will only be a footnote in the record books thanks to our beloved Patriots. Peyton Manning is not a has-been, he's a never-was; he can't win the big game. Period.

Bring on Pittsburg. Considering their poor performance against the Jets, I like the Patriots chances.

If Eugene Wilson holds onto that ball in the end zone in the 2nd quarter, it's a shutout. Manning and the Colts are just another big offense that crumbled under the pressure of a great defense.

Pats are a 3-point pick on the road already for Sunday's AFC championship game. WEEI just said in games where Bill Belichick has faced a team twice, in the second game against that opponent he is 13-0 in his coaching career. Corey Dillon did not play in the first game vs the Steelers in Oct., the Pats only ran the ball 6 times all day, and they managed to score 20 points against the fabulous Steeler defense. If they can force the Steelers to run outside and rely on Big Ben to beat them passing, the Pats will win by 10 points.

Chile's early line: Pats 23, Steelers 13.

If you'd have told me the scores of the two AFC games this w/e, I'd have been sure the Steelers stomped the Jets, holding them to 3 points, and I'd have guessed it was the Pat's who won the squeaker. Shows you what I know.

Then again, the Steelers did hold the Jet's offense to 3 points - it was special teams the D, that got the TD's. That's why I don't think Brien is such a goat for the missed field goals. If the rest of the offense had put anything on the board, his kicks would not have mattered.

It's such a riot to watch Manning get all ticked off at his recievers. Yes, they had a hard time catching the ball but lots of his passes were over and underthrown. Brandon Stokley is still wondering where that cement truck is.... after Samuel's bonecrunching hit. Pats always seem to come out in the second half and make the right adjustments. If Belichek can make the League MVP look so bad, Just imagine what he is going to do to Rothlisberger. I Don't envy that kid.

Pats roll 27-10

On to Jacksonville!!!!

I felt bad for the poor kid. He kicked a fine ball that was just a foot too short. He gets a chance to do it again from 38 or 39 yards, but I could see Pennington making a plea for one more play. I agreed as it was only 3rd down, why not try for another couple of yards. If nothing's there, throw it away. Instead he takes a knee?!?!?! Yeah, good idea. Let's just back up our poor young kicker another three yards in a stadium that is notoriously difficult to kick in. The kid tries to get more leg on it, and shanks it. Sucks to be him.

BTW, how much do you think the Jets would pay to have Vinatieri kicking that one? Nice to have a clutch kicker on the team.
