It's getting down to the wire...they are now tied even and in the current situation, the team in second in the AL East is out, unless Cleveland drops big time.

What do you think?

My take: in the Yanks-Red Sox series, the Sox narrowly pull it off leading to another run for the World Series. :flag: :D

I say both, and not because Cleveland falls, but the White Sox fall out of 1st and the wildcard. However, I think it will be Indians and Red Sox in the ALCS and a rematch between the Red Sox and Cardinals for the World Series. This is what I see for the playoff picture.

AL East Champs: Red Sox
AL Central Champs: White Sox
AL West Champs: Angels
AL Wild Card: Yankees

NL East Champs: Braves
NL Central Champs: Cardinals
NL West Champs: Padres (none of them deserve a playoff spot anyway)
NL Wild Card: Astros

EDIT: Changed my mind. Indians will fall and White Sox will win the division.

Playoffs:

White Sox over Yankees in 4
Red Sox over Angels in 5

Cardinals pummel Padres in 3
Astros over Braves in 5

Red Sox over White Sox in 5
Cardinals over Astros in 7

Red Sox over Cardinals in 7 (come on... they won't sweep them again)

I'm staying out of this one. This will get nastier than the worst political thread in this forum if I stick around.

I'm a diehard Yankee's fan so you can draw your own conclusion as to what my predictiions are. My friends up in Mass and I have an agreement. We simply don't talk to each other from mid-sept until November. Save's a lot of heartache.

I agree with Trailboss' assertion that it's all or nothing in the East. Second place team will not beat the Indians for wildcard. Whoever comes out of the East in second will have their record pretty bruised. It would take a miracle.

May the best team win.............Go Yanks.

If it comes down to next weekend, the match-ups, if they go in order, will be these:

Friday: Wells (14-7) vs Wang (8-4)
Saturday: Schilling (7-8) vs Small (9-0)
Sunday: Wakefield (15-11) vs Johnson (15-8)

Here's what I think this week's scenario is:

Red Sox win 3 out of 4 against the Blue Jays, making them 94-65.

Yankees tie Orioles 2 out of 4, making them 93-66.

Red Sox win Friday, Yankees win Saturday, and Red Sox win Sunday after a 1-1 game goes into OT and Ortiz bombs one.

Being a mass native and growing up there being a huge redsox fan, its tough living here in stamford and working in NY. The yanks or sox will be probably 1game from eachother when it starts, and the yanks pitching has been much better, granted the sox are playing at home, but the yanks took 3of4 last time they were in boston. Plus the Jays have been to the sox what tampa was to the yanks, i believe the sox or only like 5-9 against them this year, i know its at home but ya cant overlook them, as far as the yanks, i watched every game from the sox orioles, baltimore has just given up, so look for the yanks to take 3of4 worse case scenario. Either way they both are not as good as last year.

Hmm... Tied with 7 to play. 7 at home for the Sox, 7 on the road for the Yanks. Looking forward to watching the Sox knock the Yanks out of playoff contention at Fenway after Tizzle and Manny each hit one onto Landsdowne.
I hope to watching another parade from Boylston and Ipswich in a few weeks!

Man...Toronto is Boston's kryptonite. Jays take 3 of 4.

Sox - 93-66

O's have been quoted as saying that they aren't counting the days until the season ends, they're counting the hours Yanks sweep.

Yankees - 95-64

Much like last year's ALCS, the Sox are desperate, and fend off the "Really Bad Empire" (Toned-down a bit for Beano  ) Sweep at home, Sox to the playoffs.

Well, it would at least be dramatic...

I hope they are tied going to Fenway this weekend. That will be fun to follow. I'm a Met fan, but also a Yankee hater, so I'll be rooting for the Sox.

I have the feeling that only one of them goes to the playoffs. I don't see Cleveland folding up.

Cleveland is in better position going into the week-end for the wild card. Although at this posting they only have a 1/2 game lead...the Yankees/Red Sox week-end assure the Indians some "wiggle" room...assuming they have a good week.

What would be interesting is a three way tie.

The Yankees and Red Sox would play a one game play-off for the division. Then the loser of that game would play the Indians for the wild card (as i understand it).

This would put the winner of the wild card game in a tough position as far as pitching line-ups for the first series.

I think the poll option should be changed from "Yankess overcome all" to "Sox fall flat on their face". They had a great lead that they pissed away and now it's time for them to awkwardly step aside and let the good teams continue to the playoffs. The Sox don't have enough good pitching to win all seven games, and the Yanks are on a roll. The double header today doesn't help either. Just face it, last year was a fluke, and there will be another 86 years of misery.

PS, I'm not a Sox or a Yankees fan. Not really a fan of baseball in general. Just calling it as I sees it.

Still tied!

Gotta love Boston's "Hanging Chads" Hang those pitches right in the zone....

Had a golden opportunity to take the lead after the Spank-Mes got trounced by BalComore. But.....

Gentlemen, there's no need to even pay attention until Sunday...we all know they'll be tied with one game to go, winner take all.

That's the way God intended it to be.
