Yeti Cycles ASR-5c Enduro 140 Complete Bike
In a world saturated with both carbon, long-travel all-mountain and ridiculously light cross country bikes, the 127mm travel Yeti ASR-5c fills an often overlooked sect in the world of dirt -- the classic mountain bike that's capable of handling conditions of both styles without batting a lash. Dressed in Yeti's Enduro kit, the ASR-5C Enduro Complete Bike is ready for years of hard riding with incredible reliability.
Inside its Golden, Colorado facility, Yeti refers to the ASR-5c as the 'cheater bike.' It's lighter than most cross-country bikes, yet it has five glorious inches of rear wheel travel to keep you grounded during all out attacks on the backside of the mountain. The high modulus, carbon fiber monocoque front triangle is optimized for stiffness. This unyielding structure, along with a 68 degree head tube angle, are what give the ASR-5 Carbon the steering precision and stability that it's known for.
The low slung top tube acts as a sturdy attachment point for the Fox Float CTD rear shock, and it allows plenty of standover clearance for unexpected dismounts. A tapered head tube strikes the perfect balance between weight, durability, and steering precision. It houses a FOX 32 140 fork with CTD adjust, as well. Again, Yeti employs carbon fiber for the rear triangle. The whole unit is molded as one piece with massive chainstays, defining its lightweight and flex-free behavior. Each of the suspension pivots houses sealed cartridge bearings for a smooth ride, and lightweight pivot hardware keeps the overall weight respectable.
Even though it has five inches of wheel travel, the ASR-5 Carbon is no couch ride. Yeti's single pivot, Active Suspension has been tweaked on this bike to deliver a firm feel that allows for very efficient pedaling. Those that favor coasting over pedaling, and want more of a sensitive suspension, may want to take a look at the Yeti 575.
The Yeti ASR-5c Enduro Complete Bike rides on a Mavic Crossride Wheelset wrapped in Maxxis tires. Drivetrain duty is covered by a mix of SRAM and Shimano. Up front is an X7 front derailleur and a SRAM S1000 crankset with 22/32/44 tooth gearing. Out back is an X9 rear derailleur and a SRAM 11-36T cassette. Avid Elixir 5 brakes keep your speed in check, while an alloy TruVativ T20 stem, seatpost, and handlebar occupy the cockpit.
