A friend ran into this webpage indicating that a new hostel is in the works for Stowe:

Exactly what Stowe needs!
It is? If you can afford to ski at Stowe, you're not apt to choose a hostel. Hell, I'm one of the cheapest skiers on this entire board, and even I wouldn't stay at a hostel. The hostel budget would do better to ski someplace with BOGOs, cheap college rates, or ample voucher opportunities IMO.
Don't forget ski club/council appreciation days. I'm planning on skiing Stowe this Fri. using this discount. Club/council days are this Fri-Sun.Yes. A hostel brings the overall cost of a ski weekend or trip down and helps offset the cost of tickets. It's not hard to ski Stowe on the cheap if you try( VT club card, ski Vermont 3-5 pack, ect). Stowe isn't this unattainable beast that ppl on this board make it out to be.
The fact that YOU wouldn't stay in a hostel doesn't mean it's a not good thing for Stowe.

It's fairly close. Yes, you can ski an off day or two there reasonably with preparation, but in general, it really is very expensive with very few discounts and discount days relative to other mountains.
I'll do you one better than that.
I don't even understand how it's going to financially work as a long-term concern, unless State of Vermont gave them all sorts of tax incentives & subsidization to create a "low-cost" option. Hell, the real-estate alone in Stowe is very expensive. Is this thing really green-lighted?
They have 15 ski club/council days alone ($44 tickets). Not even counting the other discounts. It's fairly close. Yes, you can ski an off day or two there reasonably with preparation, but in general, it really is very expensive with very few discounts and discount days relative to other mountains.
With all of the hockey tournaments up at Jay Peak, they could really chip into Jay's hotel business if something like was constructed. Also, where the North American Hockey Academy now stands; that used to be a budget lodge with some hostel style rooms back in the 90s. A buddy of mine used to cook breakfast there. The place was packed on the weekends. Owners retired and the hockey academy bought the place.
It appears that they left the murder room off the floor plan.
And let's not forget, plenty of people who travel to Stowe in the winter aren't buying those expensive lifts tickets. Tons of winter hikers looking to explore the notch / AT, huge CC ski network.
I could care less about the subsidization and tax incentives.

Couldn't. And (depending on your current age) you, and everyone else in America will one day. Sooner than you think.
