    Bolton Valley Question

According to the lift ticket page: It's my home mountain, so I'm up there quite a bit, and I have no idea what chevling is talking about with the "mornings only" observation. It can get windy up there, so maybe those were wind holds?

    Truth in snow reporting

That is the question I had when reading the news accounts--which have been popping up all season, with nothing new added. I can't argue with their data or method, but this conclusion they make about an iPhone app that's been around for a year is curious. Hard to believe economists are making...

Monster Dump Wide Ski 24 Hr. Special for AZers

The thing about epic snow is that it keeps people away from the computer, and they miss worthwhile threads like this one. In honor of the 6" of powder that fell along the spine of the Green Mountains last night, how about turning this 24-hour special into a 48-hour special? On to the other...

Thorough, and with awesome pics. Best trip report I've seen in some time. Always great stuff from you, J. Spin.

    Recent Teardrop conditions?

Has anyone been up on the Teardrop since the recent Sunday-Wednesday series of storms? This trip report from Stowe makes the upper-elevation trees sound promising. The Mansfield stake is at its season-high (90"), but this week's snow was extremely elevation-dependent, and I'm curious if the...

    The 4/5 sheer desperation thread

The Bolton website is saying 5-7" at the base this morning. I was skiing up there for a couple hours yesterday afternoon, and the snow was coming down pretty heavily. Flakes seemed to be of a high moisture content which should be good for sticking to the old surfaces, but I have almost no idea...

    Mad River Glen 3/25/09

The end of the 2005-2006 season was actually even worse. Mad River was taking weekdays off by early March due to lack of snow, and shut down operations before April 1st (if I'm remembering correctly). That season suffered from low snowfall totals all winter long, though, and bizarre warm...

    Mad River Glen 3/25/09

Jay, Smuggs, Stowe, and Bolton are all above that. But not by a ton. The 6-8" that fell north of Route 2 Saturday night and Sunday morning pushed those hills into the 15-20" range for March. Still shockingly dry.

Best and Worst Online Snow Report

As a newsletter, I assume it's technically ineligible. But it's important to remember that the ski season is long, and that prolonged exposure to thin air can do things to people's minds.

Busier in the NE this year?

Hard to imagine that this is truly the case. It's second hand information, so maybe there's been some miscommunication, but "almost all" is too strong. Southern Vermont resorts may have had a good winter (I have absolutely no knowledge about that), but Northern Vermont is definitely off of...

    3/1 - 3/2 Storm Discussion Thread

Forecast for the spine of the green mountains looks much improved. Snow starting late tonight north of Rt. 2, continuing steadily early Monday, tapering off a bit Monday evening. Projections: 1" tonight, 3-5" Monday, chance for 2-4" Monday night/Tuesday. That's a rapid improvement from even...

    2/22 @ Stowe..poof..JADIP...

Sounds like an okay time. Did you scout Angel Food or Riverbed at all? I think they might've seen a lot of action Friday/Saturday. I'll be on the mountain tomorrow and the next day, and watching this snow fall tonight is...promising.

    Skiing and riding after Feb.?

In northern Vermont, Christmas week was brutal with that weekend thaw/rain which wiped out some very good mid-December conditions. And then heading in to the MLK weekend, we had that extreme cold front Wednesday to Friday (and Saturday, to some extent) that had the mountains looking like ghost...

    Bolton Valley, VT 1/31/2009

I always enjoy your trip reports, J.Spin, and not just because Bolton is my home mountain. Your snow-quality analysis is shockingly informative, and your pics are consistently worthwhile. Plus it's always good to see tiny kids starting out on tele gear. Little guy's going to be a phenom. I...
