Agree 100%. I said the same thing in older threads. With a little effort, no one is fooled by counting a single trail as 3, but it does make it a lot easier to provide useful information on what is open.

When I was a kid growing up skiing Gore (1980s/90s), Upper Darby and Lower Steilhang were almost always closed. Later on they started making snow on the latter at times and now they may do so more regularly....I have hardly gone in recent years though.

I actually think Stowe's upper/lower distinctions are very helpful. I don't care about the total number. But from their snow report, you can figure out exactly what is open. You don't have to have Goat marked open only to learn that the top is closed. The report tells you, because "Upper...
