    The Haiku/Skiing Thread

Haiku From: http://volweb.utk.edu/Schools/bedford/harrisms/haiku.htm “Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets, which you will soon be, write about everyday things. Many...

    Snow on Little Whiteface

Hey HPD, I never posted on RSN. A friend of mine told me about the forum a couple of years ago. He is a member. I used to check it daily to get a good laugh. The Adirondack RSN regular “posters” all seem to know each other. Most forums are very politically correct and I think that is fine but...

    Snow on Little Whiteface

Hey HPD, RSN is up and running but the posts are few. Is this because no one can stand the new format? adk

    Favorite cruiser?

Highway 86 at Whistler’s Peak to Creak. Drop down to Dave Murry’s Downhill below the Raven’s Nest chair and ski down to the Creekside Gondola. It’s a full mile of vertical that offers 400 acres of skiing in just one run.

    who's skiing this weekend?

The weekend at Whiteface if my beat up body can take it. Broken ribs are still painful and inhibiting my skiing.

    Mogul critique please (videos inside)

Bumps Hi Greg, My Media Player only showed one turn so I can’t really comment on your video. Like you I have been working on bump skiing for years. I am not a young guy so to me skiing bumps is all about speed control and not beating up my knees to badly by crashing into the bumps to control...

Days out this year so far

I “sorta” lost track this year. I think I'm at 41 which is terrible for me this late in the season. My best season was two years ago getting in 102 days therefore my handle. Injuries did me in this year. I'm finishing the season with a separated shoulder, two torn meniscuses in my knees, broken...

Anyone know what happened to the RSN forums?

Going single helps on the high speed quad but here are a few other tips. 1. Get there early 2. Move to Hunter West as soon as it opens 3. Ski through the lunch hour i.e. 12:00 to 1:30 4. When Hunter West gets crowded move back to Hunter and avoid the high speed quad when crowded 5. Ski late...

Ski Area Views From Local Roads

Whiteface from Route 86, sorry I cropped the road out of the picture. Whiteface also has it's version of OMC at another location on Route 86 is five miles from the mountain right after Adirondack Life's offices. I'll take a pic next time I go by there.

craziest thing i have ever seen

Awf170, I saw a friend of mine standing sheepishly at the side of an uncrowded ski trail at WF on a foggy day. She had just returned from Winter Park where she had taken a weeks worth of bump skiing lessons. Her instructor had told her to practice skiing backwards and doing 360s to improve her...

Anyone know what happened to the RSN forums?

I have to agree with dmc and HPD. I worked and lived in Orange County and skied Hunter for years. I had a season pass there for two of those years. Although Whiteface has been my home mountain for 24 years Hunter does have some challenging terrain, especially on the West Side. Claire’s Way and...

the best lift lines (to ski)

Lift Lines I can't say I love skiing under lifts but one year I did over 500 trips down Whiteface's Mountain Run. Why, I don't have a clue. Lifts distract me but they are usually right down the fall line and offer some pretty good skiing. I sometimes ski them straight under the lift between...

    Equipment question

Hi Again Ph0eniX, You don't have to. It may take a while but you can ski shaped skies using straight ski technique. I still do it all the time and many of my skiing friends ski shaped skis and insist they haven't changed anything. If you buy a shaped ski designed for bump skiing it isn't...
