booked a big canada trip for february ... must be august

Might depend on the insurance company. Mine definitely covers Turo and any other rental for that matter. The advantage of taking Turo's is that it won't affect your own insurance if you have a bad luck ( and if you are indeed covered).

booked a big canada trip for february ... must be august

I now live in Golden BC but used to go ski out west every year. No rental company will guarantee winter tires. You can ask but you are never sure and most of the time they won't have them (like 90%+ of the time). Your best bet is to use Turo (the air BnB of car rentals). You will find...

ChatGPT has no respect for East Coast resorts

Agreed, I mean seriously, no eastern ski resort comes even close to the best Western ski areas. Just in Western Canada, I can easily name 10 resorts that are better in any possible quantifiable measures than the very best eastern resorts,

Cannon Mountain, last to open and first to close??????

At Kicking Horse BC, the sun currently rises at 8h52AM. It's still dark for first chair.

    Mont-Sainte-Anne gondola incident

Mont Ste-Anne used to be the flagship resort, but that was in the 80s. Intrawest then built the Tremblant Village and has long surpassed St-Anne. Le Massif also passed St-Anne when they build the parking lot access from the top, shaving 20 minutes (and up tp 40 in bad weather) of travel...

    Mont-Sainte-Anne gondola incident

Since it's a private company, it's only speculation. RCR flat out refused a serious offer to buy Mont Ste-Anne just last month, not the sign of a company in distress. RCR business model is not 'build it and they will come'. They operate at minimal cost and my guess would be at a good profit...

This has been scheduled way before the finale sale was completed and is a special one evening event. If the food is good, I think it is fairly priced.

Electric Cars/Trucks and winter weather testing with results. What do you think? Who has taken one in Freezing cold long distance to a Ski mountain?

Electricity generation is indeed a huge issue and is barely discussed. Gouvernements are pushing electrical vehicles way to quickly. Pretty simple to work out the maths. Adding tens of millions of electric vehicle would entail adding hundreds of Gwatts of new generating stations, most of...

I wonder how many early purchase day tickets go unused?

I have no idea as to the real percentage of unused ticjkets, but based on my own experience as well as that of friends, I would guess that It could easily be in the 20-30% range

    VAIL SUCKS

Correct. Warming is slow when your time horizon is the next decade or two. At the geological time scale however, the observed current warming is freakingly scary fast. And you have to differentiate global mean temperature increase versus local regionalized increases. Land masses warm faster...

Best (or better) ski schools for toddlers to learn in PA, NY, or S.VT

There are many ways to make it fun, but none of them involve an instructor trying to teach a kid to do the pizza slice if he is neurologically incapable of doing it.

Best (or better) ski schools for toddlers to learn in PA, NY, or S.VT

Brother in law is a neurologist. He said if a child can ride a three-wheel bike easily with strength, they are ready to start skiing. Weighing and unweigthing legs repetitively is a complex neuro-muscular skill which is acquired between the age of 2 and a half and 4 depending on the child...

LOL I doubt Vermont's thoughts are changing anytime soon. Even if the Bicknell's Thrush makes a comeback, they'll find a wild frog or salamander in need of saving.

I would assume it will take a few days before the new owner is announced, I would also assume that it is a bit more complicated than an EBay auction, and that there is some paperwork to be done before everything is ready for an annoucement, But what do I know... They'll probably have apress...

Best (or better) ski schools for toddlers to learn in PA, NY, or S.VT

Agree with deadhead skier. Cumulative time is what makes them good. When my son was 3 and a half, it needed to be fun. My experience is that girls are better at handling very young kids than boys. At 3 and a half, the highlight of his ski day would be eating snow, having a hot dog at...
