    Saw Trailboss today at Snowbird!

That was a motley crew. We ski better than we dress. Nice meeting you in person, thetrailboss.

Ever ski Timberline, WV or Elk, PA?

Some of the local boys skiing. First third is park n pipe stuff, middle Timberline (with none of the tight stashes revealed), third is mostly Whitegrass (earn yer turns). WG skiing at the end is on XC gear. http://vimeo.com/19181835

Ever ski Timberline, WV or Elk, PA?

To further qualify the T-Line (and CV) tree skiing, you can get plenty of log jumps, stream jumps, tight trees, and bramble/scrub bashing as you see fit. And since the areas are not too big, they are pretty easy to find. If you ever make it down here, I'll gladly give you a tour.

Ever ski Timberline, WV or Elk, PA?

Also, if you are skiing down here in the Mid Atlantic, when the natural snow is good, Blue Knob in PA is a rockin' little area. Conditions can be variable, but some pretty challenging trails, even by VT standards. Tree skiing can be sketchy due to over logging, which has caused serious erosion...

Ever ski Timberline, WV or Elk, PA?

Season pass holder at T-Line the past five years (live outside of DC, grew up in CT, went to college in VT.) As to whether Timberline is worth a trip, depends upon how far you are driving. And what part of NE you are comparing them to? (MA and CT, very favorably<edit: if not superior>. Northern...

Will Snowshoe, WV Open This Week?

I haven't heard from any of the locals in Canaan Valley, WV (~1.5 hours north of Snowshoe) most of today. I think they are having some real serious power, road and tree issues in West Virginia. Snowshoe couldn't open before Thursday, and I guarantee they won't have enough open to justify the...

March 15-18 skiing Stowe, MRT, Jay...

Didn't refuse to join, hadn't been on skis since my accident. But had I known there would have been a White Wedding... Grew up in Connecticut, went to college in Vermont, used to ski New England a lot. Unfortunately, haven't gotten to ski NE in a bit.

From Utah: Park City Resorts Wish to Connect (UPDATED 2014 for ONE WASATCH Project)

Thanks for the links; I came across the Epic Ski thread yesterday. Just looking at the topo from Google Maps, I'd be real surprised if they could connect the bottom of MB with Mary Ellen Gulch. Looks way to flat. Sorry about all the questions and thanks for the responses!

From Utah: Park City Resorts Wish to Connect (UPDATED 2014 for ONE WASATCH Project)

That would bring in a lot more terrain in Mineral Basin into play without hiking. How much further down would that be? That also could be a very long runout in the basin. Also, so I'm not missing anything obvious, The Twins are the ridge above The Road to Provo and Baldy Bowl? I've never hiked...

From Utah: Park City Resorts Wish to Connect (UPDATED 2014 for ONE WASATCH Project)

Thinking a bit more, I may have my Mineral Basin aspect a bit off. Bookends = N? Baldy Express = S? Mineral Basin = E? Except for the Bookends face, the entire Mineral Basin area seems to suffer from sever sun exposure. Lack of trees also accentuates it.

From Utah: Park City Resorts Wish to Connect (UPDATED 2014 for ONE WASATCH Project)

Aspect of the expansion ~= aspect of Mineral Basin, i.e. south? Correct? With some E/W ridges funneling into the gulch? Mixed feelings on the Canyons/DV/PCMR to Solitude tram. Euro model is to connect areas in different countries to each other. But also to permit skiing across someone's back...

    The edge of never

Don't post here much, but I'll give a biased review. Worth checking out. Way different from the typical ski porn. Movie has soul, but mebbe it's a bit rough around the edges. My bias == I skied with the writer/directory Bill Kerig for half a day two winters ago in Snowbird. He's a great guy...

    Jay crowds this weekend

I chose the right days to ski this past weekend. The parking lot was full at the Snow Bowl on Saturday, but I skied up to the lift all day (with one exception being the Lang lift.) Jay had no lift lines on Friday - no real surprise, but I was glad that the masses did not start their weekend a...

    Brilliant Gems of Trail Design

Though much easier and wider than the narrow expert classics at SB and MRG, how about Proctor, Youngman and Voter at Middlebury Snow Bowl? (Haven't skied them in 25 years, so they may have been graded and widened over time.) How about Goat, a trail cut by a drunken artist, so unconventially...

    Brilliant Gems of Trail Design

Rural legend has it that several trails at Timberline, WV were cut that way, except the round stone was replaced by a bowling ball. The West Virginia added touch...

Middlebury College Snow Bowl: February 10, 2007 (PICS Included!)

Great pictures. Brings back some memories. I graduated from Middlebury in 1984; a bit before you. ;) In addition to skiing the Bowl in College, my family spent annual winter vacations there. To make myself feel really old, I can remember when the Snow Bowl had no charlifts; just pomas. (Though...
