    Big Sky intel?

Hi guys, I'm off to Big Sky for 3 days next week, December 7-9. I know it's super early but they've gotten a lot open (including the tram!) and they keep getting snow. The Snotel site for Lone Mountain is at 135% of normal and they're supposed to keep getting snow.... based on the forecast...

    Drought?

I see much of the Northeast is in a pretty nasty drought. I see rain Monday/Tuesday for you guys then bone dry after that. I remember some pretty dry summers but the rain would always come again in September/October before ski season. Hopefully this dry spell does not go too far into the...

Ski Topsheet Repair- Just Knicks, No Delam

I've got quite a few knicks/dings on the topsheets of my skis. Everything I read online is clamping and marine exoxy and cleaning etc for delaminations. Mine aren't delaminating- just about a dozen or so knicks on the topsheet. I'm thinking just dabs of JB Weld would do the trick?

    Thaw

Thinking about you guys and the mountains I still love. Thursday/Friday looks like one of the worst mid-winter thaws I can remember in recent times. The forecast for Killington calls for .75-1" of rain. Winds at the summit reaching 65-90mph depending what source you look at. Temperatures in...

    Mammoth vs Squaw Va-...errr...Palisades Tahoe

Hi all, as many know I've moved to Utah living life as a ski bum. I want to do a "big trip" to California after Alta closes. I will more than likely be purchasing an Ikon pass this spring in order to do this trip and take advantage of the spring skiing pass usage they've permitted at Alterra...

    Educate me on tire chains

Many of you know....just moved to Utah...working at Alta. And that means LCC everyday, in all conditions. I just got a 2011 Hyundai Tucson with AWD and a computerized 4WD lock button (if it's anything like my old Toyota.... the computer will "command" equal power to both axels, and work up to...

    Y'all are lucky

The forecast for ski country in the NE looks BEAUTFIFUL. I'm here in Utah salivating over it. Big storms, little storms, and consistent cold as far as the models show. Super jealous. Wish I could go to Killington right now with 12"+ coming today and more next week. Probably get some natural...

    Some Good Personal News

Hi all, It's been amazing talking skiing with all of you for the past long while. I love being from the Flatlands and still being able to log-on to Alpinezone and talk skiing with y'all. To me, it's not a powder day without the "storm thread"....the posts about which weather model is doing...

    Cannon Tram Future

Thought this might be worthy of its own thread. Something like this could certainly takeover the Cannon skiing thread for a number of years so I decided to post it on it's own. https://www.newenglandskiindustry.com/viewstory.php?storyid=903 I don't really understand replacing a tram that's...

    Dual Late Season Storm Thread

Storm 1 is Friday and Friday night. Pretty much a super-soaker for most of ski country. High elevation and high north mountains could do well on the back-end with a few inches of snow (or more) after a rain start. Models keep waving back and fourth on snow totals for this one. Storm 2 is...

Permanent Industry Changes in the Post-COVID World

Arapahoe Basin says they're not gonna stop limiting capacity... https://unofficialnetworks.com/2021/03/12/abasin-season-pass-model/ There's certainly gonna be a lot of stuff that's changed forever. COVID is more than likely the last nail in the coffin for the walk-up lift ticket at the major...

    Who's Blowing Snow?

As much crap as Windham gets they're announcing they're gonna make snow tonight through Wednesday AM on quite a few trails. That's impressive. Nothing about Killington making snow which is pretty lame by their standards. Maybe I hit Windham Wednesday as it's supposed to be near 40 degrees and...

    Blue Hills Shutdown (not covid)

What the fuck..... https://liftblog.com/2021/01/30/massachusetts-orders-blue-hills-ski-area-closed/ So it sounds like because of two relatively common occurrences that got major media attention the ski hill has to shut down? It's very sad the kid fell and had to be airlifted to the hospital...

    Underfoot Delamination?

So...I've got a pair of Fischer all mountain skis. I've had them three years so they're nearing the end (borderline rock skis now). Anyway, when I first got them the shop mounted them and after maybe 10 ski days I had to bring them back as the back binding plate was loose and coming out of the...

    Visibly High Edges

I don't even need a truebar, I can see it with my eyes and feel it with my fingers. What's concerning me is I've never had this problem before, I'm always good about keeping stuff tuned up. So it's been maybe 22-25 ski days since a grind. Probably the longest number of ski days for this pair...

    Crystal 12/7/20

This place has gotten some serious snow. I believe the snowpack is something like 125-150% of the seasonal average. Everything was open a week ago but due to melting some of the crazy stuff is now closed (Chair 6 and Northway). Today was a 40 degree spring day, with blue skies and minimal...

    Alta 12/1/20

I spent 3 days in Jackson Hole and the skiing was fantastic by EC standards. I left at 2pm Monday bound for Sandy, UT and I was rolling through some of the most beautiful parts of rural Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah just as the sun was setting. Picturesque. Today was the first time I skied Alta...

    Jackson Hole, 11/28/20

My first day skiing out west My first day skiing since March 100"+ of snow and locals calling it one of the best opening weekends in memory. Jackson was supposed to open with a couple beginner lifts, Apres Vous, and I believe Casper. They ended up doing all that and Teton, Marmot, and the...
