    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Skied there yesterday (Tues) morning before work. Tumbler was pretty good, Hammerhead not so much in parts (the dusting of snow Monday night did a god job hiding all the rocks). Woods off of Tumbler looked pretty good but I didn't go in because I didn't want to risk taking my 9:30 call from a...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Heard the same thing -- was sitting next to someone in Mountain Ops after work at the Reks yesterday who told us that. Also that Saturday was SB's second busiest day (i can't remember, it was either second-busiest or second-busiest non-holiday day). I said "well, at least we know that's the...

    Uphill Resort Skinning… a warning

Speaking up uphill skinning (non-resort, in this case) -- has anyone been to the Brandon Gap since COVID hit? I haven't been there since Feb 2020 and I imagine it would be insanely crowded now, especially on a weekend.

    The nuclear option

Atomic bomb was one idea for Mount Snow expansion Every time I read about crazy plans people had for using A-bombs back in the day, a part of me wishes at least a few of them were actually implemented. Maybe not *this* one, specifically, but still

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Took an extended lunch break and did a few runs, including one on castlerock. The few inches did actually help vs yesterday.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

I was almost about to swear off skiing anywhere that makes snow ever again :ROFLMAO:

"It takes approximately 180,000 gallons of water to make one cubic foot of snow." What.

    Mammoth

Lee Canyon was where I learned to ski and where I skied most often growing up. It's a neat little place with some great scenery and some interesting terrain. It always reminds me of some of the smaller places in Vermont, except you could see real mountains and play video poker in the bar...

    Mammoth

Magic Mountain is awesome, and totally worth putting up with crazy Angelinos for.

    Mammoth

Chains or cables will get you through both R1 and R2 road restrictions even in a 2wd vehicle. If it gets to R3 you're either not going to want to be driving or the road will be closed, so don't worry too much about that. You can buy chains in Bishop or Lone Pine before you head up into the Long...

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

I just read that Phil Scott was going to announce changes in travel guidance for "Vermonters who have been vaccinated." My guess? Instead of 14 day quarantine, you will now be able to go about your business after ... 13 days of quarantine.

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

I remember when they first set up the EZPass system one of the conditions was that states wouldn't be allowed to use the data for issuing speeding tickets, possibly for this very reason.

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

I don't think that's true, unless things changed. ‘We don’t have the capacity, nor should we be enforcing this'; Officials question how Mass. travel order, fines will be carried out

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

Yeah, I keep wondering that too. I suspect that lodging is being dinged majorly. Meanwhile, I'm beating myself up for missing such a great season. Maybe it's an artificial distinction -- I won't follow the restrictions (well, i follow the spirit but not the letter), but I can't bring myself to...

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

I keep having conversations with people about how "Vermont won't kill its tourist industry" and I keep thinking "I'm not so sure". I think more than 50% of voters in VT would prefer to keep more people out indefinitely, and if this is a way to do that then fine. I doubt they've really thought...

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

I'd rather they spend it on a tubing hill than on those stupid metal permanent quarantine signs that Vermont has put up everywhere. I just realized they put one coming into the Mad River Valley from Roxbury. This is actually good for me because I wanted to shoot one up but I figured it would be...

    COVID concerns in the Northeast

Vermont without the rest of the country would just be West Virginia 2 in terms of quality of life, poverty levels, and health outcomes. So, enjoy that, I guess.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Also it's really sad that friggin' Big Bear (and also a ski hill in *North Carolina*) opened before someplace like Sugarbush.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Mammoth, Squaw, and Big Bear are open (and have been for a little while). I genuinely don't blame them (yet) for not rushing to open in VT -- what's the point?
