SKI Magazine's Resort Rankings (North America)

I moved to Pagosa Springs, CO last summer. 28 Miles to Wolf Creek from the house. It's a lot like Plattekill, in the middle of nowhere, family run, no condos, simple lodge with good food at a decent price, but more terrain, deeper drier powder, and less people.

    Mount Peter 1/17/2011

Date(s) Skied: January 17, 2010 Resort or Ski Area: Mount Peter Ski Area This was our first time to Mount Peter. For us it's a 40 minute drive on quiet country roads. We went for the 3 to 9PM session($25) . I ended up not skiing due to gear issues. At first the lift lines were 10-15...

Why would you not move out West?

Slow down and enjoy the elbow room in the horse country around Pagosa Springs, CO right next to some of the best wilderness areas in the lower 48. Hiking, Climbing, Hang Gliding, Kayaking, Fishing. They also have a nice little family ski area there. http://www.wolfcreekski.com/

    Plattekill 2/27

I didn't say that. For an IT guy you seem to have a poor grasp of sets, subsets and supersets.

You had to be there, but a 15 year old son was involved.

Do Not Come to Hunter - Roads Closed - Lifts Down

I really was prepared to give Hunter a fair shot. I did not get Belleayre season passes this year for the boys. I bought x3 cards for each of us. Bought lift tickets during the holidays, and another during President's weekend. I enjoyed myself, but Hunter dropped the ball too often...

    Plattekill 2/27

One of the best ski days I have ever had. I made the mistake of skiing onto the untracked gently sloped blue "Just do it". After 30 minutes of wading a hundred yards through chest deep snow I made it to the slightly more traveled blue "switchback" and escaped.

Do Not Come to Hunter - Roads Closed - Lifts Down

Pulled into the lot this morning at 8:35 to find ridiculous lift ticket lines stretching out across the parking lot, across the drop-off road and into the next parking lot. Got back in the car and drove to Plattekill in 30 minutes. Had a blast. I think I am done with Hunter.

    This weekend...

Hunter. I have not used my 3X card yet. This should be a good day for it.

    Hunter 12/29 - 1/1

It was nice enough yesterday, but I spent twenty minutes swinging in a cold breeze near the top of the F lift.

Best uncrowded, beginner mountain for holidays??

Mount Peter would be good for you as would Belleayre. There are plenty of lovely B&B near both mountains. Use Tripadvisor.com to sort out which are the good ones.

Things to do in or around Kingston, NY

Woodstock is cool, and the trail to the top of Overlook is a 2 mile dirt road up 1700 feet to the fire tower. Some of the best views in the Northeast on a good day. Saturday and Sunday afternoon there will be Hang Gliders flying in Ellenville, about a half hour down 209. The Carriage roads in...

Is Stratton (or Hunter) worth it this Saturday?

Stratton was nice on Sunday. Towards the end of the day the Sun bowl and the lower mountain got slushy, but the rest of it was lots of fun.

Is Stratton (or Hunter) worth it this Saturday?

I'm hitting Stratton on Sunday with our free tickets. I am guessing it will be their usual uber groomed conditions after three sunny days and sub freezing nights.
