Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Barrier Tights - Men's
Pearl Izumi knows that cold weather is usually accompanied by wind and rain, which is why it created a new collection around its advanced Barrier fabric technology. With the new Elite Thermal Barrier Tights, you stay protection from the elements and also receive the comfort and support of Pearl Izumi's latest 3D Elite chamois.
For the construction of the tights, Pearl Izumi incorporated panels of both its Elite Thermal Fleece and Elite Barrier fabric. Elite Thermal Fleece is essentially two of Pearl Izumi's advanced materials in one. It relies on the exceptional moisture transporting properties of its Transfer fabric to keep you dry, while the lightweight brushed fleece interior helps to insulate your leg muscles. The Transfer fabric works by transporting sweat away from your skin to the quick-drying outer-surface. This material earned its reputation of setting the standard for moisture management fabrics, largely because it's the foundation for the breathable, wicking fabrics used in the majority of Pearl Izumi's spring/summer jerseys. A lightweight thermal fleece material was then blended with the Transfer, providing just the right amount of insulating protection. Elite Barrier fabric panels were then strategically placed throughout, serving to block the wind and repel water. Together, these materials work as a system to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable during your early and late season rides.
The elasticity in the panels, along with the constructed leg articulation, allow the tights to follow your movements in the saddle. This means that the fit is free from any bunching, pinching, or chafing while in the cycling position. Pearl Izumi calls this its 'form fit,' which is cut to closely follow the contours of your body while still providing a full range of motion. Combined with the anatomic cut and elastic Elite Thermal and Barrier fabrics, the smooth flatlock stitching used to join the tights' panels further reduces any friction at the seams.
The tights were built around Izumi's seamless Elite 3D Chamois. This insert incorporates 13mm variable density padding throughout its three-layer construction. The new foam technology means that it's lighter and thinner than previous generations, while still maintaining its pre-shaped, four-way stretch anatomic shape. The chamois also incorporates Izumi's pressure relief technology (PRT) and active carbon yarns to optimize riding comfort, blood flow, and thermo-regulation.
The tights were finished off with eight-inch lower-leg zippers that flow into the contoured leg openings. With the zippers featuring internal draft flaps, and the leg openings providing added coverage over your shoes and booties, your lower-legs and feet retain warmth and stay shielded from the elements. Additionally, silicone grippers at the ankles keep the tights securely in place, and reflective elements increase your visibility to motorists in low-light riding conditions.
