Met Miska and Tom, another AZ'er @10am.

Late start, betting on things softening a bit. Fast and firm until about 12:30 when things started to soften just a wee bit. Natural trails with bumps had been closed, there had been some "incidents" last week. Gotta get Magic marketing to get with the program. Still said they had all trails open. Beautiful sunny, windless day, could see forever. Once things soften, they became more fun, I was running at mach schnell speed since the woods were closed too. A little too "firm".

Mishka said to me, "you go first!"

Mishka makes custom skis. "MR Custom Skis". Does it for a hobby. He brought half a rack of skis for me to try. Really nice stuff. Given the conditions, I liked the narrower skis more. Really stable at speed. He can tell you more.

It warmed up nicely. Not to fleece-level, but it was in the mid 30's.

Looks like snow tubing is done for the season.

Best part of the day was that many, many families were there with little ones. Great to see.

Finally, it was good to see one of my flags up on a pole.

Was not there but my bet is they had several trails closed due to 1) trails being too firm and 2) Ski patrol not reopening once things soften.

Heard patrol was very short staffed this past weekend. Tough to keep folks at the top, in case of a call, and also keep up to snuff on changing conditions. If it were my show, Magic would have 15 or more patrollers on the mountain every weekend day, not 4 to 6.

Future recruits are badly needed for patrol to keep the mountain safe and as open as possible.

whatever trail I saw closed yesterday imo was closed for reason. snow didn't really softened up that much except flat open areas at the bottom.

What surprised me the most it's constant riding of snowmobile up and down the trails to the point where previously hard pack snow become nicely tilted by snowmobiles riding same route over and over again and fairly enjoyable to ski on.

untracked woods have thick crust… a lot of snow but not the conditions I would like to venture into

overall great day with a great company

I think the last time it hit 50F was Christmas! There's been no real spring skiing, at least on weekends. It could be that the typical March spring skiing happens in April this year. But will Magic be open past the 12th?
