Area skied: Pats Peak, New Hampshire
Date skied: January 10th, 2009 from 9:30am - 1:45pm
Surface conditions: Machine groomed, hardpacked.
Weather: Sunny in the morning and 12F, cloudy after 12pm and 21F
Warren and I made it up to Pats Peak for the first time ever and we made the trip up today to avoid a potentially rough trip tomorrow if it snows as forecast. This is a longish drive for us for a small mountain and involves a 122 mile ride with 60 miles of single lane driving.
We arrived to a fairly busy mountain with a near full parking lot. Since these lots are small, that's not saying much. Pats Peak is a small mountain by New Hampshire standards with 710' of vertical and 22 trails, but the upper mountain is fairly steep. Our first run was down Breeze/Squall Line which is a top to bottom green for a warm up.
Pats Peak:
Next up was Twister which had a race ongoing, so we where forced to ski a narrow part of the trail on skier's left. The snow was hard packed and the light was very flat so we only took one run down that trail.
We took a run off the Valley Double and skied Puff including the Puff Glade which has trees spaced about 15' apart and is really not much of a glade. We skied the Turbulence Terrain Park which is a bit flat but had a few larger hits.
Tornado and Cyclone where next and both had groomed snow with lots of scratchy areas in the middle with some softer snow on the trail edges.
ROTD was Upper & Lower East Wind and we took 3 runs down this combination including skiing in the short glades off of the run. Warren had fun skiing around the tree islands on Blast.
Duster Glade:
We skied double black diamond's Vortex and Hurricane and Warren had a bit of trouble with the large hardpacked moguls on Hurricane, but managed to get down okay.

Overall we had fun and would like to return in March for some bump skiing on Hurricane when the snow softens up for some corn skiing.
