Anyone used Paul Richelson for boot fitting? I have heard some good things and was thinking of making an appointment. Thoughts? Is there a better boot fitter closer to Portland, ME?

I've had good, accurate alignment assessing/measuring from Paul. Can't imagine bootwork being any different. Doesn't Jeff(Skiboot?) have a shop on the SR access road? Outstanding orthotics for my other boots/running-shoes.
IME the guys at the SR shop, inside SouthRidge Lodge do good work as well.

I went to Jeff in Concord when I got my footbeds. Richelson's Feet First is one town over vs the 45 minute drive to S&W Sports in Concord but Jeff's rep here is top notch and he offers AZ'ers a discount. Not sure which is closer to you but I highly recommend Jeff.

We had Paul come down and do a pitch to our club about five years ago. He is one thoughtful dude and really knows his stuff. Does a lot of homework on all the newest boots - goes out and takes internal measurements on all of them. He doesn't sell boots, but will recommend which boots to buy based on your measurements and performance criteria. You buy the boots elsewhere, bring them in, he does his thing. Definitely a store I would wait out in the snow for it to open. I've heard he can have a waiting list weeks long for appts.

It's kind of a crap shoot either way. Plymouth is approx 3 hours from me and Concord is about 2.5. I am heading to Plymouth for a festival in a few weeks and I have nothing to do one of the days. Figured I could set up an appointment

So it must be a multi-visit type of thing? His website lists a bunch of different boot companies that he "sells". (Atomic, Nordica, Lange, Full Tilt, Technica..a few others.) Maybe that just means endorses.

If you are buying boots elswhere, it's definitely a multi-visit thing. He may have to do work on the boots themselves, like stuffing, carving and shaping the mold. He's measuring everything from your foot to ankle to leg and muscle and posture. It's a complicated process that he makes look easy.

He may have changed his business model since I talked with him five years ago. Give him a call.

I have visited Richelson's and would recommend him to anyone. As Bill said, he takes measurements and makes recommendations as to which boot you should get. Then he will customize those boots for you too. Before visiting him, I went through two other pairs of boots, that didn't fit well, and were cutting off my circulation.
