Cool. Been a while since I went to a good show, I think the last one I went to was Jimmy Buffett last summer.

I saw that show in 1976! At the Beacon. With Al, without Jean-Luc. They played 2/3 electric, 1/3 acoustic. Other details are lost in the mists of antiquity.

Wait, I think the Mahavishnu Orchestra was in the same show. John M. with 3 Indian musicians. The mist clears a little . . . nope . . . fogged up again.

Awesome.

I've seen McLaughlin when he had the One Truth Band. Seen Jean-Luc about 3 times. But never RTF. Can't wait.

Personally, I prefer my 1970's jazz to be a little less fusion-y. I had lots o' Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Al DiMeola vinyl but, like the Dead, it loses something now that I've quit smoking dope.

These days, I'd rather listen to jazz-funk and acid jazz.

Acid jazz is British bands like Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies. You get influences from funk, hip hop, disco... I can dump you a bunch of MP3s this fall.

I got turned on to it in the mid-80's. It was the style of a lot of the bands playing at the Boston jazz clubs like the Regattabar back then.
