BMC Fourstroke FS02/Shimano XT-SLX Complete Bike - 2012

The BMC Fourstroke FS02/Shimano XT-SLX Complete Bike - 2012 is a rocket on the trails. Equipped with a proven Shimano build kit, and rounded out with Fox suspension and Mavic wheels, its happiest logging long rides in the dirt. And with a feathery carbon fiber front triangle, its more than fast enough to warrant dressing it in a number plate and showing your buddies what youre made of.
The FS02 uses a unidirectional carbon fiber front triangle, mated to an aluminum rear triangle. There is no cosmetic layer of woven fabric on the exterior to mask sloppy craftsmanship during the layup process. The unidirectional fibers on the Fourstroke hide nothing, and serve to showcase BMC's attention to detail and the fine execution in their construction. Unidirectional carbon is notoriously difficult to work with, but is advantageous since each layer can be oriented so that the fibers are perfectly aligned to distribute stresses in the frame as outlined by the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the design lab. By doing so, BMC makes the frame as light as possible while retaining strength and stiffness where it's needed most.
Stroke is controlled using BMC's patented Advanced Pivot System rear suspension. It's essentially a mini-link rear suspension that creates a floating pivot. The forged aluminum links are purposely short to eliminate unwanted lateral flex, and they provide a union between the carbon fiber front and rear triangles using sealed cartridge pivot bearings. The placement of the upper and lower linkages creates a fine balance between bump sensitivity, stability (resistance to bobbing or effect from rider weight shift), and their desired leverage ratios. And by positioning the floating pivot relative to the chainrings, the APS suspension maintains the efficient pedaling characteristic that world class riders demand from a high-performance trail bike. The Fourstroke delivers 100mm of race-ready rear wheel travel damped by a Fox Float RP2 shock. It's air sprung and has an external adjustment for rebound damping and a two-position (on or off) ProPedal lever for adding low speed compression damping if needed on long climbs or non-technical terrain. The APS rear suspension is active throughout the travel range, accomplished by BMC's insistence on a nearly linear wheel rate. So although you'll get a suspension that is tuned for maximum acceleration and traction, it still yields the full 100mm of travel should you need it. The net result is a bike that soaks up bumps beautifully whether youre at full gas, coasting, or braking.
This particular FS02 runs on a Shimano build kit, from the SLX shifters and front derailleur, to the XT crankset and rear derailleur. Avid Elixir 7s keep your speed in check. Suspension duties are handled by Fox, with a Float RP2 rear shock and a 32 Float RL fork. Easton supplies the carbon fiber seatpost, while the handlebar and stem are Scor items. The wheels are Mavic Crossrides, wrapped in Schwalbe tires.
The BMC Fourstroke FS02/Shimano XT-SLX Complete Bike - 2012 is available in four sizes, from Small to X-Large, and in the colors Red and Green.
