Lincoln, NH, May 24, 2011: Loon Mountain Resort, featuring new Segway tours, a zipline adventure, New Hampshire's longest scenic gondola skyride and an affordable Adventure Package, kicks off the summer season this Saturday for a Memorial Day weekend opening. The mountain resort will be open weekends from May 28 through June 19, with daily operations beginning on June 25.

New this summer, Loon will offer area tours via Segway - a self balancing two-wheeled personal transport device that is fun and easy to ride. Participants will get a short orientation to learn how to ride a Segway and then they will glide on a guided tour of the local area, learning about the area's history and logging heritage, and how it transformed from a logging and mill town to the popular year-round destination that it is today.

The Gondola Skyride, with access to the 2,750' Loon Peak and Summit Adventures, will be open weekends from May 28 through June 26 then daily through October 16. In addition to spectacular White Mountain views, the summit offers glacial caves to explore, where kids can hunt for the 'Lost Loon Gold' and take home their own gold token. Treasure maps are available inside Loon Mountain Sports Retail & Gift Shop, where Skyride tickets are available for purchase. An interpretive self-guided nature walk, observation tower, and mountaintop playground round out the family fun available at the summit. The Summit Cafe offers lunch and refreshments with a scenic backdrop and families can also visit with local artisans as they practice their crafts.

Located at the base of the mountain, the Loon Mountain Adventure Center is where guests can soar over the Pemigewasset River on the popular zipline, which debuted last summer. The adrenaline rush continues on Loon's four-person bungee trampoline, where up to four people at once can bounce, flip, and jump up to 25 feet in the air. An outdoor climbing wall and mountain bike rentals and tours are also available. The Adventure Center will be open weekends through June 26, daily through September 5, and weekends through October 10.

For guests who may prefer a slower pace, the Loon Mountain Riding Stable offers one to three-hour trail rides that meander along ski trails and old logging roads. To enhance the experience, guides engage riders with stories that make the area's history and local lore come alive. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 603-745-8111 ext. 5454 or 800-229-LOON. Riders must be at least 10 years old and a minimum of 48" tall. Pony rides are also available for kids younger than twelve years old who are able to sit unaided. The stable will be open daily beginning June 25 through October 10.

The best and most economical way to discover all that Loon has to offer in the summer and fall is by purchasing a Loon Mountain Adventure Package, which delivers a whole day of family fun at an affordable price. Priced at just $44 for guests 13 and over and $34 for kids 12 and under, the Adventure Package includes a trip on the zipline, unlimited bungee jumping and climbing on the climbing wall, a 2-hour mountain bike rental, plus unlimited Gondola skyrides. The junior package also includes a pony ride and all activities may also be purchased a la carte.

Loon is also known for its variety of special summer and fall events, and this summer will not disappoint. In addition to family-favorite events like the Hot Dog Festival, Oktoberfest and the popular NH Highland Games, this year the White Mountain Firemen's Muster makes its debut over the Fourth of July weekend.
