Five inches of new snow at Attitash Mountain Resort in Bartlett, New Hampshire and four inches at Wildcat Mountain in Pinkham Notch this morning, along with flurries throughout the day, are helping things to like white in the White Mountains and more like the holidays in the Mount Washington Valley. At Attitash Mountain Resort, the new snow was icing on the cake for today's opening of the Attitash Summit Triple that offered top-to-bottom skiing and riding and access to Humphrey's Ledge, Upper Saco and Northwest Passage down to Thad's Choice. We also closed the gap on the Upper Highway, giving access to Spillway and Northwest Passage from the Flying Yankee Quad. Also, after having hosted the past four straight days of FIS and USSA alpine ski racing events, Bear Peak will open to the public for the season tomorrow, Saturday, December 24. Total trails open for Saturday is expected to be at least 12 with 5 lifts operating. Attitash Mountain Resort will be OPEN Christmas Day from 9am - 3:30pm. Holiday hours will begin Monday, December 26 with lifts scheduled to operate from 8:30am - 3:30pm for the week.
At this time, skiing and riding between Attitash and Bear Peak mountains is not yet connected, but our shuttle service will be operating daily between the two base areas. Our terrain park will also open this weekend with 2 new snow elements and 5 rail & box features set-up in anticipation of the first of four freeride series events, the ATP Rail Jam, being held Saturday, December 31.
At Wildcat Mountain, there was fresh surface snow on the open 2,100 vertical feet summit-to-base route via Upper Catapult, Middle Wildcat, and Cheetah. It is expected that Wildcat Mountain will be adding novice terrain off of the Snowcat triple chair this weekend and aggressively making snow when the conditions permit to add additional main routes off the summit starting with the Upper Lynx as well as middle- and lower-mountain trails including Alley Cat and Lower Catapult. Total trails open for Saturday is expected to be 5 with 2 lifts operating. Wildcat Mountain will be CLOSED on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25. Holiday hours will begin Monday, December 26 with lifts scheduled to operate from 8:30am - 3:30pm for the week.
We're also very encouraged this evening, as we look to the holiday week, that temperatures will be dropping and snowmakers at both mountains stand ready to resume operations as soon as the combination of temps and humidity produce the ideal wet bulb to begin making snow.
This upcoming week, RAMP skis are scheduled to host demo days at Wildcat Mountain on Tuesday, December 27 and Attitash Mountain Resort on Saturday, December 31. Also at Attitash Mountain Resort, Eastern Mountain Sports will be hosting an Alpine Touring demo day on Wednesday, December 28.
